Cameo Bar

i don’t have loads to say about Cameo Bar as unfortunately i only made a short stop here before the group i was with decided where to go next. however, it was totally A-​OK. has all the usual spirits so i was quite happy with my G&T, the price was reasonable, and there was loads of seating. i did feel that the bar lacked a bit of atmosphere, especially for a saturday night as it was fairly quiet so this sort of took away from the party feel the group had. in fact the bright lights and quiet surroundings made me realise how tired i was and i headed home after my drink here… so possibly a lack of atmosphere can be a good thing after too many drinks on a night out!
that said, this bar is perfectly acceptable and if i was ever looking for a quiet place to grab a quick drink i’d happily return here. however, with bars like bond no 9 to compete with at the shore, i think Cameo Bar could do with a bit of livening up!

Yup that is about it, Tennis, Rugby, Soccer, Formula 1 — all to be watched here.
There is a front bar and back end bar on different levels — the back end bar has a backdoor leading to a patio where you can smoke.
It does seem that nearly all seating is arranged so you can watch sport on 1 or even 2 screens of various sizes. Clientele is a mix between locals, sport fanatics & students. The atmophere is jovial, loud and welcoming, you can always strike up a converstation.
Service is slow. The drink prices are reasonable and there is a decent choice. They have Beer & Curry or Beer & Burger deals every so often — which isn’t something I’d go for in any bar /​pub — but tried it once and it was OK.
This is a pub serving ‘pub grub’ but they are trying hard to be a little more varied in their offerings, but they do burgers, steak and chips best.
I did not see actual outside seating and the smoking patio is not a sun trap, but I understand that they are not stopping you to sit on the green grassy public space when it is a warm day with your drink.

Another Sunday morning Brunch favourite! Haven’t been for awhile but last time I was there the eggs benny were very good. Served a little differently on a corn muffin. Nice pub in the evening.

I love this place, it’s great for drinkies with friends or a nice romantic evening with your love. Relaxed, warm and welcoming with yummy pub grub.

A solid choice for watching football or just a pub bite to eat if your looking for cheap and cheerful.
Friendly staff and a good selection of beers make this a afvourite place for lads keen to watch the footy/​rugby or other sporting event.
Was pleased to see them recently introduce Brunch at weekends and while the food is by no means fantastic it reflects the price and does the job!
All in this place delivers what they set out to do and do it reasonably well.

The Cameo is reminiscent of a Wetherspoons in the worst possible way. There is no atmosphere or character to the pub, and although it’s possible to have an ‘okay night’ here it’s difficult to imagine it ever being a memorable experience. There are far superior bars in Leith to drink in, try venturing down Bernard Street.

This bar in Leith (not to be confused with The Cameo cinema in Tollcross) is a nice little bar near the Shore. I’ve been in a couple of times, and it proved to be a nice place to spend some time in. Whilst not particularly stand-​out in the food stakes, it was still a nice hour or so.
The last time I went, I was with a group of around 10 others, and were able to be accommodated without too much fuss, with tables located near the kitchen. Truth be told, I can’t remember what I ordered, which is maybe more a reflection on the food rather than my memory.
If you want a quiet drink, or somewhere to watch the big game, I would suggest you give Cameo Bar a go. Who knows, you might find it to be more remarkable than I did.

The new refurbished Cameo is looking rather dapper. Another addition to the other cool little spaces down by the shore. I wouldn’t say I’d travel to it, but if I lived above it I wouldn’t be complaining.
It’s dark, moody colours and dim lighting is nothing compared to the rather obnoxious gold statue when you walk in the door. I don’t see the point in that at all!
All the usual suspects when it comes to a bar/​restaurant, perhaps too much choice isn’t a good thing, let’s all remember the quality of Little Chef.

Not a bad place. Atmosphere modern in an old building, though for such a big place I expected more selections beer, especially local. The staff seemed overworked even on a cold, rainy Friday evening that didn’t seem that busy. The staff wasn’t terribly friendly when I asked about items on the menu. Overall, nice place, though.

I recommend the Cameo for sports fans as it’s an excellent place to watch football matches. The bar is over three levels with screens in each area so you can usually find a seat even for bigger matches. There is a good choice of drinks available with a particularly extensive wine list, and the service is relaxed and friendly. The food is nothing special but is fine for a quick reasonably priced meal during a match (burgers, curries, chips, etc). Given its proximity to the better restaurants and pubs along the Shore I wouldn’t go to the Cameo specifically for the food however it is one of the best pubs in area for a relaxed drink.

The Cameo bar was renovated fairly recently and although the changes after several weeks of being closed didn’t appear to be too dramatic it does seem to have led to a fairly noticeable increase in the pub’s popularity. The food is good quality and plentiful and fairly reasonably priced so it’s a good place for a pub lunch. I particularly like the layout of this place as it creates a lovely cosy atmosphere while still managing to comfortably seat a large number of customers. It’s a good choice to warm you up on a cold winter’s evening or to watch sport on the big screen. They also cater for private functions, just have a chat with one of the bar managers.

The Cameo Bar in Leith is a great value pub if you’re wanting a cheap night out. Located on a busy street near to the Scottish Executive and the water, it always seems to be busy inside.
The décor has been made to look sumptuous, but is getting a bit tatty round the edges. One impressive thing is the large bronze statue as you walk in the door which is fairly ominous.
They have a wide selection of beers and wines, which are a bit cheaper than the other pubs in the area. They also seem to have some good special offers depending on what day of the week it is.
The food is very much pub grub and more cheap and cheerful than anything special, but certainly good value for money.
The pub always has a good atmosphere, probably due to the fact that they show most sports on large screen TV’s. On a Saturday afternoon this can be a bit annoying if you’re wanting a quiet pint, so I’d generally avoid it then.

The Cameo Bar serves lovely food and has a really eclectic feel to it. It is an unusual space and it definitely has its regulars but they are not unfriendly at all. In fact the whole feel of the Bar is very welcoming.
It has an old-​style charm to it and it is different from a lot of the pubs that have been springing up along the Shore since its development. The décor is now bang up to date since its makeover and it has retained it’s charm. It reminds me a bit of a Toulouse-​Lautrec painting, and that can’t be a bad thing!

A comfortable and plush bar. I’d struggle to fault Cameo. The refurbishment has been very well done and the atmosphere is fabulous. The bar takes on a split level formation — an area designated more for drinking, while the upper level serves as a more restaurant based area.
It’s been a while since I’ve eaten in Cameo Bar, but the food was very good (hopefully it’s equally as good now!). A little cut above average ‘pub food’ with a dish of olives available as an appetiser.
It is rather quiet during the week (perfect for business lunches), but it is well worth a visit.

Cameo bar is a lovely bar, plushly decorated and with a good choice of different beers, wines and a fab cocktail list.
It’s quite large inside with two bars on two different levels, with plenty of comfortable, yet elegant seats. There is usually a mixed crowd, and whereas it isn’t always jam packed, there are always quite a few people in it.
Outback there is a small heated area for smokers, but this normally closes at 10pm because of the residential area it looks on to.

The Cameo Bar in Leith has recently been revamped, and it is looking pretty damn good. It offers a different atmosphere from the other Leith bars, with a slightly decadent boudoir feel, full of cosy corners and really elegant décor. From embossed wallpaper to a huge bronze statue in the downstairs bar, every part of the bar has been thought through and designed with style and character.
The food menu is the usual pub style, but the quality and the presentation match the ambience. I have heard this goes downhill on busy weekends, but I have yet to be disappointed myself.
It is a perfect place to take work colleagues or meet your classier mates for a few, and I find it ideal for a quick pint after work since it is one of the few local bars that open til 1am weekdays. It is still pretty quiet during the week but gets busy at weekends and in the summer, and is one of those places that deserve to do well. It is a bit more upmarket than the other Leith pubs but still has a very relaxed atmosphere, and is one of my top Leith recommendations for pub food.
