Tacos and byob is a great combination but get there early as we only had two choices — fish or tofu. Simple décor and reasonable service but probably a bit over priced for what you get when you take into account you are not paying for booze. Salsa etc seemed a bit mean in portion size.

Cosy and intimate best describes this small(seating for under 20, at a guess) Mex-ish establishment. Costs are obviously low with the limited but imaginative menu(+ the specials) and by the fact it’s BYOB. Service was swift and very personable and you can eat well for very little. We were lucky enough to get in without a booking but in all we ordered, ate and paid up in well under an hour, which I expect is ideally what they need to keep the cash flowing.

it was only while adding some new photos to Bodega that i realised i had never updated my review! i went not long after Bodega first opened and the place was constantly busy but i’ve been back a number of times since and the place remains constantly busy although less so on week nights. so my original one star deduction about being rushed off my table no longer stands true. every other time i’ve been, we’ve been sat for ample time not once hearing that the table is needed back. and on my birthday we sat there a fair amount of time after the restaurant had closed without the server saying anything to us :) the value of their menu is probably what also bumps this up for me. for my birthday i had a booking for 9 people and they offered me a set menu– selection of starters, two pairs of tacos each for main, selection of desserts, and byob corkage included for £20. seriously good value as we got a ton of food to share and had quite a few bottles on the table. i just went for their xmas menu which is the same idea except £25 instead of £20…but i guess it’s christmas so prices go up a bit. still though, an xmas meal for under £30 that included 4 bottles of prosecco is seriously good value! i love this place and will definitely keep going back over and over again! i just hope they do the sloppy jose special often as tiny perfectly fried quail’s eggs are amazing :)

Intimate little place with a stripped down menu and adventurous takes on Mexican classics. Not for the chimichanga crowd this is delicate, well balanced flavours. BYOB and an Oddbins next door if you forget. Portion sizes are on the leaner side but as it’s kind of like large tapas you can always order more or just get a bit of everything for your table. The fish tacos are a must try plus the staff are attentive but not in your face, so just adding to the chilled vibe.

Cannot argue with what these guys do. They have a simple idea and they execute it well. And as I’ve said many times before(read: Oink, Los Cardos, Union of Genius, et al) the simplest ideas are the best. And that stands true for Bodega also. Tacos is the name of the game and they have taken this simple street food to the next level, taking a classic Mexican dish and reinventing it by infusing with all number of contrasting flavours and styles, from Jamaican Jerk to Korean Bulgogi. From tempura prawns to the maple and pineapple pork. On paper these ideas sound delightful and in reality the execution is just as great. The flavours permeating through each and every bite is fantastic and, to look at, you would be forgiven for thinking the size of them might leave you feeling unsatisfied. Not the case. Bodega have designed their menu cleverly, each dish providing two tacos and costing a very affordable £6. Considering most of us would probably spend upwards of a tenner on eating out, £12 for four tacos is not a huge ask and the portion sizes work to this effect. The guys themselves are great. Two great characters and you can tell they take pride in their endeavour with every interaction. Very accommodating where they can in terms of prepping orders for takeaway and/or(occasionally) delivery. Considering it’s just the two of them and their kitchen staff, and how busy they always are, this is an impressive extra. Can’t rate them highly enough. If you haven’t been, get yourself to Bodega. But expect a queue out the door! #highdemand

Mmmmm — I really liked this place. Having had great Mexican food in the states before, I’ve been searching for something to fill the Mexican shaped void in my life… Bodega have really unique and creative taco flavours which are truly yummy and not too expensive! Slow cooked maple pulled pork was a scrummy, and the fried cod had a lovely crunch. The coconut and ginger chicken was also lovely — and a great mix of textures with creamy sauce and crunchy cAbbage! My only complaint would be spice level — the chicken was the only taco with a mild spice, the other two lacked any. Not that this would be an issue, if the hot sauce provided at every table was actually spicy… Despite being warned of its heat, it was literally Heatless! But for a lovely atmosphere, a tiny bill and a cheap BYOB deal — this is a great location for a weeknight casual dinner that won’t break the bank :)
