I have really mixed feels about Babies and Bumps. The first time I came here it was heaving, with no free tables. There were bajillions of toddler age kids screaming up a storm while their mums enjoyed coffee and tea. It was loud. When I came back it was empty. What? We enjoyed the quiet with our two little people who and were able to take in the atmosphere. The staff are of course lovely — just what you would expect of people who choose to work in a child focused café. The decoration is gorgeous and they’ve really thought of everything that a parent of a baby would need or want. There are toys, baby jails(honestly — they’re great), play mats, a fantastic change room, and even a bouncy chair in the toilet so you can take your little person in with you. Apparently there’s also a feeding room but I’ll get my baps out anywhere so I didn’t take advantage of this. But… the food was really not good enough. Especially for the price. £5.95 got me thin and poor quiche with a handful of crisps and a pile of rocket. £3.25 got me a really sub par slice of red velvet cake which was neither red not chocolatey nor with cream cheese frosting — so basically nothing red velvet about it. £2.75 got me a latte which I enjoyed, despite being told that something had gone wrong with the roasting of the beans. The idea is stellar — Morningside is like the baby capital of Edinburgh and mums run on coffee and cake — but… for the price I just didn’t think it was worth it. I would genuinely happily pay that for proper tasty food but frankly, I could get an amazing cupcake at Cuckoo for less and the great kid friendly atmosphere just isn’t enough to bring me back.
