I stopped in here in need of a quick haircut and got exactly what I came for. The guy who cut my hair, presumably Alfie, was friendly, and I was out the door within 15 minutes or so. The cut ended up a bit shorter than what I thought I asked for, but it’s not the end of the world, and he gave my beard a nice trim — all for £12. Overall a positive experience, and not bad for a quick, friendly, and cheap haircut.

Alfie’s seems like a real traditional barbershop. Funny story, when i first walked in, the place was literally empty — but as i left the fella was hurrying back, apparently his co-worker had gone to Glasgow for the football and he ducked out for lunch without locking up. Fair enough? I showed him a picture of the style i wanted and with an «Aye, got it!» he went to work. Decent cut for £12, and he was done in about 10 minutes. Easy!

Standing in Fleshmarket close, gazing into the window at Alfies, only the flatscreen telly hanging from the ceiling could tell you that it’s no longer 1983. You can positively feel the decades of history as soon as you step in the place, and it’s in such perfect condition, so well looked after, that even with 80s décor it feels brand new. As well as looking great, the haircut wasn’t bad either, and didn’t break the bank. Having longish hair, I thought I’d be forced into a short back ‘n’ sides, but that didn’t happen. I’m not sure if it was Alfie himself that gave the trim, but he did a good job and delivered some proper manly banter. Excellent.
