I’m in the unhappy predicament of desperately wanting a pet, but being strictly forbidden from getting one by my landlord. As a result, my visit to A1 Pets on Great Junction Street was slightly bittersweet, and mainly involved me staring wistfully at impossibly cute gerbils, white rats, chirping canaries, cockatiels and miniature turtles, and imagining how much I’d love and cherish them if I had the chance. Even a strange and ugly red crab sitting alone on a rock gave me a pang of regret.
Still, if you are lucky enough to be in a position to make your pet-​owning fantasies reality, A1 Pets is crammed full of supplies for your animal friend, stocking a surprising range of products for such a small shop.
