There are so many great looking pubs round here but The Sussex Arms particularly took our fancy as on a Saturday night before having to get up early for work the next day, we wanted one drink somewhere we could chat. The music was fun and not too loud, the atmosphere was friendly and buzzing without being too drunken and we managed to get the last table and stools. The staff were great, the selection of drinks wasn’t bad but could be better, and the prices were decent. It is quite a cosy pub. I didn’t notice any outdoor seating line other reviewers have mentioned but maybe that’s because it was so cold when we visited. It is in a nice location for sitting out though in the summer. I’d like to try more pubs in the area but would visit The Sussex Arms in future and would recommend it.

Yes it is a charming square, but it is pretty much a tourist trap. You have to wait forever to get out door seating. The food and drinks are nothing special just okay. The bathroom is pretty much disgusting and looks super unkempt. alcohol selection is average.

If you are looking for a friendly and cosy place overlooking a charming square, that’s exactly where you have to go. The venue has comfy outdoor and indoor seating and if you opt to sit out on a Friday or Saturday night, you can enjoy some great athmosphere. The selection of wines is humble but sufficient with white and red choices from Villa Maria NZ and beers are more abundant. The food menu is very extensive but since we had only chips with our drinks I cannot comment on any special dish. Bar staff were very friendly and patient and did not mind answering our multiple questions:) Overall I had really great time!
