There aren’t many places to drink on a Friday night in London where you can have your pick of many tables. Usually, it’s a scrum to find a corner of a table to balance your libation on. Last Friday we decided to try this hotel’s bar to avoid that very situation. It is a nice, sleek and modern interior and yes, there were lots of tables spare, but we were not the only customers. It is table service and this was prompt and friendly. As hotel bars go it isn’t posh, but they have a reasonable selection of cocktails at a very reasonable £7.50, draft beers and reasonably varied wine list. Prices are more than pubs, but if you fancy a quiet chat in a calming environment then this is a good desitination. I didn’t try food, but the pint of Stella I had was perfectly poured and surpinsingly tasty. The glass of pinot Noir was also good(I like to try everyone’s drinks!).

Small, even by London standards. Unnecessary furniture, which takes up what little space there is. Arrived 20 minutes prior to check in and we were informed by front desk staff they would«waive the 30 pound early check in fee». Our room was ready and it was 20 minutes, you’re not really waiving a few if we had no intention of paying it. I usually love double tree properties but this one missed the mark. EDIT: Rang up to get a second set of towels and were told they would be sent right up, we waited 15 minutes and rang back to be informed that they were doing a shift handover and it would be another forty minutes. When staff arrived they brought the wrong items twice(bath robe etc). When I booked the hotel I requested hypoallergenic(non feather pillows). Went to get into bed and of course found that they were all feather pillows. We then rang and requested hypoallergenic pillows(specifying non feather) and were brought two more feather pillows. Big regrets about booking this hotel and would be hesitant to stay at a Hilton doubletree hotel again.

Location Plus: Near an underground station. Minus: One that is far beyond the first two zones, but a station, nonetheless. Noise Plus: The hotel is situated far back from the street, reducing traffic noise by oodles. Minus#1: A wedding reception took place on the first floor one of the nights I stayed there. Knowing this wedding would likely be a bit noisy, I thought I would be free from noise in my room on the fourth floor. I was wrong. It wasn’t too loud, but I could definitely hear the music and was a bit sad I couldn’t join the party :( Minus #2: The doors are very difficult to open, which makes guests struggle for several minutes. When it is a guest in the room next to you, it sounds like someone is trying to break into your room. Cleanliness Plus: Everything appeared clean, no mysterious hairs anywhere. Minus#1: There was visible mold growing on the ceiling in the shower of my bathroom. Which makes me wonder how clean things really were beyond the surface. Minus#2: Bleach seems to be the hotel laundry room’s best friend. Every time I dried my face off with a towel, I was almost knocked out by the smell of bleach hitting me. Lobby Plus: Free wireless. Decent bar. Minus: The lobby can get very crowded as it isn’t very large. The size also makes it very difficult to get away from any particular guests who are too loud(men watching football matches, little kids escaping a wedding reception). Restaurant Plus: Food was decent. Minus: Food is insanely overpriced. 15 pounds for a decent breakfast buffet = don’t go for it unless it’s included in your room price. The restaurant is also incredibly understaffed.
