A lovely family run traditional chippy. Sadly they tend to close quite early — around 8pm but well worth visiting for their homemade patties — mashed potato with cheese or corned beef in batter. Portions are decently sized and the prices are inline with other local chippies. The couple who run it know what theyre doing and do it with a smile. Theres a good range of drinks, vinegar etc and parking is available on the street or locally in Sainburys car park. Well worth a visit if passing and hunger pangs hit. More stars would have been given if they had longer hours — we often just miss them.

Also known as Sheila’s to many of the locals. Located near to Sainsbury’s in Gilesgate, just at the top of Gilesgate bank. It has no car park, but plenty of on street parking available nearby. No seating area, so takeaway only, They have a wide variet of different foods, from fish, both Cod and haddock to fish cakes, pies and sausages. The fish was nice, but nothing special and the batter was a bit greasy for my taste. The chips were nice, and they were happy to add on plenty of batter. The staff were friendly and the order was fulfilled quickly.
