The selection here was varied and most of the things we tried were tasty(there were a couple of misses, alas, or things that we wanted to be delicious and were only so-so like the Chinese lamb). The curries were decent. Serving was sometimes awkward — some of the foods on offer didn’t really lend themselves to bulk service and it wasn’t always clear how to get the ‘custom made’ items. The drinks and silverware are self-service which is a little odd, but we had a tasty meal with a nice variety for everyone and the price was reasonable.

A posh version of taybarns. Fantastic quality with reasonable prices and a huge selection to satisfy anyone’s cravings. You must visit at least once. You won’t be disappointed

Cosmo’s reputation precedes it — I heard wonderful things about this place before I visited, so I went with my family on a Sunday evening at 5 o’clock to try it out. The table was not ready for five and with three restless, hungry children waiting was quite stressful. Walking in(finally) I was overwhelmed by the size of the place, and amount of customers in the room. We were shown to a table and I excitedly rushed toward the food. The variety of food was excellent, and the chefs were professional and top quality. The food itself was quite bland but the choice made up for it. I particularly enjoyed the honey-roast chicken wings and the hoisin duck wraps you could construct. I also tried onion bhajis(very crispy), vegetable samosas(fell apart), and spring rolls(tasteless). I would give Cosmo five stars if only the staff were better. They seemed uninterested at best, but mostly annoyed and seemed to be rushing us to get the table free. There were also no spoons for dessert and the staff were reluctant to find some more. Definitely an experience but needs better staff.

The buffet… They’re like Marmite — you either love em or absolutely hate em. I can completely understand the reasons why some people just aren’t fans. The food in most of them are often low quality, boring and unexciting dishes with lots of weird selections. Quantity over quality could sum them up. Some would argue though that they’re great value for money and are a better option than paying loads for 1 meal. Cosmo, which is located at the top of the Frenchgate Centre near the bus interchange and train station entrance is the newest buffet in Doncaster. It’s definitely in the most prime location you can get in the town. As soon as you leave the bus station you see an escalator going up to the buffet. I have to say they have made an effort in making the place look shiny and nice. It has that chain feel though. It doesn’t feel warm and cosy. Feels quite impersonal. For a while I hear people in Donny raving on about this place(I question whether they ever get out of Donny), so I decided to try it. I have to say it was nicer than Red Hot Buffet in Leeds. The food at Red Hot Buffet was terrible. At least the food here gets a pass. I came in here with low standards and the food was at least eatable. The sushi which was advertised were a bit boring(they only had sushi rolls), the Chinese curry wasn’t anything to jump up for joy about, I don’t know why they bothered with food like pizza and chips… Sorry for the half arsed review. I can’t be bothered to go into detail. It’s nothing to scream about. Just your average, boring, buffet… Except there’s a hell of a lot of promotion and hype in Doncaster for this place. In a big city this would be no big deal, but in Donny, it seems to be as this is a place that lacks culture, diversity and nightlife outside of ‘241 alcopop’ chav holes, takeaways and out of town restaurants like ‘Frankie and Benny’s’ and ‘Pizza Hut’. I have to say my service sucked. Well it wasn’t too bad, but when you have to chase people down for service it’s not good. Being busy really isn’t an excuse. Yo Sushi gets mega busy and I still get decent service. For the price I paid too, £14.99(a Friday evening), which I reckon is pricey for buffet, you expect customer service to be decent. I’d visit on a weekday and not a weekend. The amount of kids, night-time revellers, race-goers, and general chavs who don’t know how to behave in public can get annoying. Also if you decide to visit go with low expectations. It’s good for the purpose of getting a quick load of food with friends. I wouldn’t take a date here. Conclusion — you get what you pay for. Though with the amount you pay for each person with drinks you might as well visit somewhere better that isn’t a buffet? It seems cheap, but the end of the day you’re paying just as much. Doncaster however is lacking choice on the restaurant front. I’ll give it a 3 cos it’s not as bad as some other buffets I’ve tried.
