One of the plethora of restaurants on the Friar Gate, Graze looks from the outside to be a small modern restaurant, however, appearances can be deceptive, it is actually quite large and expansive at the back. Modern in décor, light, spacious and tastefully furnished, with a well stocked bar, it was a promising first impression. As it was a work’s outing we took advantage of the three courses for £15.95(Monday-Thursday). A slightly restricted set of dishes but still plenty of choice. The starters arrived on a wooden platter, a great dish of ham, chicken and mushroom on brioche, with a dressed side salad. Mains wise there was a decent variety including homemade pies, steaks etc. I plumped for the homemade burger with hand-cut fries; a great burger, the fries whilst good, were a little overcooked though. The additional supplement of bacon was not worth the money though. Dessert wise I plumped for the Graze mess, lots of homemade meringue, assorted fruit and chocolate sauces with fresh cream, no actual fruit though, tasty but a little disappointing. A good meal, but not a great meal. The course pacing was a little slow too, the staff were pleasant and helpful though.

Graze tries hard but utlimately disappoints. It wants so much to be a top quality restaurant but on the two occasions I have eaten there, I have felt it wasn’t up the standard of other restaurants in the area(namely Zest or Limes). Inside the restaurant the lighting is too dark, the drinks are over-priced(I don’t care how you’re pitching your restaurant, £5 for a bottle of Old Speckled Hen is too much) and really, the food is average. I had a steak and ale pie. Admittedly, it was better than standard fare but it was no better than I might make myself. I want something that is superb, not ok. When I went most recently, the price was ok because we took advantage of the midweek meal deal but otherwise, I’d seriously consider looking elsewhere(try Zest, Limes or Emilys Steak house)

Very good. We had the £9.95 set menu which is available from 6−7pm every day. The food was very well cooked and presented. Only negative was the cost of extras, e.g. I ordered a beer and it cost £5.

Very disappointing. I was served uncooked chicken for my main course. This was a second letdown following being told I would have to pay extra if I wanted more than one bread roll with my soup. Yes it was cheap but to be honest I’d rather pay a little more for a meal and have something enjoyable.

Really nice food, nice atmosphere and its a great price. It’s a set price for the amount of courses, rather than specific dishes which I quite liked. The most you’ll pay is £17.95 for 3 course, can’t complain! The portions were just right(some might grumble but for a nouveau cuisine style dinner, its good!) Would definitely go back and would recommend to anyone who wants something that little bit nicer than the average.

We recently had their offer of 3 courses for under £20. Really nice place, great service(although we did wait for 20 minutes for them to ask us if we wanted a dessert). The steak was well cooked and the chips were amazing. Well worth the money and a lovely place to take the mrs

My friend and I visited Graze a few weeks ago. It is located on Friar gate and we had never heard of it before. We went in at about 8.00pm and were quickly shown to a table. The staff were really polite and professional. The staff in fact were wonderful. There only seemed to be 2 waitresses on but they had it covered and they were polite and cheerful and if they were stressed they didn’t show it. We were given plenty of time to order and they weren’t hovering over us as in some restaurants. They do a great deal of a 3 course meal for £13.95 or 2 courses for £10.95 with lots of choices. The wine is great value too. The restaurant is very classy inside decorated in Black and white. I ordered the 10oz flat iron steak which is absolutely to die for! I ordered it medium and it was cooked to perfection and just melts in the mouth. The Bernaise sauce was gorgeous and the steak came with a little bowl of home-made chunky chips rather than the piddling little greasy fries that I am so used to having. There is also a great choice of desserts but I have to recommend the Chocolate and Bailey’s mousse which was so good I thought I had died and gone to heaven. The toilets were very posh and spotless too. They smelled lovely too which is a change. I would definitely go here again and recomend it to anyone looking for a great Classy English restaurant to dine with friends or family.
