The Green Dragon is the watering hole of many Croydonians and workers in the area. With 10% off your bill if you work for Croydon Council and weekly deals on food and cocktails, this is the place to be after a long week. Everyone is out to have a good time and with ample seating and a pool table, you can do just that. The pub has an upstairs that can be rented, again, a deal can be given to council workers ;) The Green Dragon is always a winner for the best sweet potato fries and a drinky-poo :)

Soooo… In my previous review I had noted that it was difficult for me to pin down this pub in a cohesive review but I think I’ve come to a consensus. After repeatedly going back to The Green Dragon I found myself being less and less impressed by its beer selection and continually disappointed in its fare. The last time I went I took a visiting friend there and the experience overall was just«okay.» I ordered a steak with a superfood salad rather than chips on the side and when the food arrived, lo and behold there were chips rather than a salad. I didn’t really mind but, to my recollection, this was the third time something like this occurred in my few visits here. Looking back on it, I felt obligated to give an updated review because of the lackluster service experiences and the mediocre food. However in a positive light, the beer selection is still admirable and the bar staff are very helpful in selecting the right beer. That being said, the location of The Green Dragon is in the heart of Croydon where you have your pick of pubs and restaurants with more consistent service. I don’t want to speak too ill though, it may have just been a bad day for the staff and the kitchen may have been overwhelmed but it definitely has put me off for a bit.

The two stars are for the rich and creamy aubergine break. I would give a full four just for it but I am cutting off a whole three stars for the sh**ty service. I ordered at the bar for takeaway, even offering one of my tupperware, but the dreadlocked(gross) dude smirked at at me and raised hos ‘brow before sauntering away with the the container. I got my meal about 15 minutes late and glad I checked it out before leaving bc the chef had conveniently forgot to add the superfood salad that is SPECIFICALLY stated on the menu as accompanying the meal. I asked him about it, got a scowl but he returned to the kitchen and I got a measly helping atop the aubergine. At least the Bee Sting perry was good! The venue is also quite spacious but this staff member is emblematic how London sux compared to NY where this attitude would NOT be tolerated.

Amazing! Just gorged ourselves on delicious food, cider, desserts… and epic atmosphere. Main courses are half off on Tuesday and desserts are 2 for 1, so altogether paid under ₤ 30! The mushroom philo tart was outstanding. Highly recommended overall, the true British pub experience with an open and fun attitude.

One of Croydon pleasant city places. Only been here for drinks but have never eaten here. They do have a nice selection of beers and plenty of space to sit. Close to many good restaurants in South Croydon.

I hired the upstairs for a works party. Easy to organise although the new bar staff kept giving me the wrong email address. The food was decent quality for a buffet and there was plenty of it. They provided staff on the upstairs bar especially for us at no charge but there were over 100 of us so we did bring in a lot of money for them on a wednesday night. Nice, easy place to have a drink. Friendly staff and good atmosphere.

Hard to believe the Green Dragon isn’t here already! Since it opened, it has become one of Croydon’s top pubs and that isn’t damning it with faint praise. The sheen has come off a little and it looks a little more lived-in than it did a couple of years ago but they are still following the formula that has made the pub a success in the first place. It’s a bit of a melting pot, with a real cross-section of drinkers there and with its community-minded policies, it’s like a proper local. However, if a pub is defined by its beer, then the Dragon is at the top of the pile, regularly winning awards from the local branch of CAMRA. They have a variety of British ales on tap and all are well-kept, should that float your boat. The food is simple and basic but very reasonable. During the days it is quiet but on the weekend it can be noisier, usually underpinned by an eclectic soundtrack. With gigs upstairs during the week, it is a good place to spend some time. Why the four stars? Little niggles I guess but mainly it gets four stars because it’s not as good as it used to be.

Wana try somewhere different that’s a little quirky and attracts an alternative mix crowd, then you’re like this pub! You can catch live sports, play a board game, have a game of pool, watch a band if one on, or listen to the dj spinning some tunes! Decent atmosphere to have a drink, no hassle and you can wear what you like! If you like trendy chains then you won’t like this pub!

This building has gone through several changes in façade: it used to be a bank, then an estate agent, and has been a pub for approximately a decade. In its guise as The Green Dragon, the pub has slightly alternative leanings, hosting live bands in the metal/prog rock vein, but also caters for gentler evenings by providing board games for customers to play while enjoying a few drinks(which are priced around the market rate). The pub attracts quite a nice crowd and has the advantage of staying open until 1am, so is good to move on to if you’re not quite ready to go home at midnight but don’t fancy a full-on night on the tiles.
