Awful. Dated interior, limited menu with far too many seafood options, rude staff and extremely overpriced. This place needs some serious revamping to compete with other ‘higher end’ restaurants in the area. Won’t be visiting again.

Having walked past La Capanna over a number of years, it has always crossed my mind that it looks like a dark, dismal, dated 1980s throwback of Italian restaurants in their heyday. I visited there for lunch today with a friend and was proved right. The are in a 1980s timewarp — dark wood, ‘rustic’ beams, everything needs reupholstering, repainting and recarpeting. The restaurant was around a third full for lunch. The waiters were very friendly, and the menu didn’t have enough choice for me, a few of the dishes were unsuitable for me because theY contained sea food. Our meal was satisfactory, not mind blowing. We were given some bread while we waited for our main meal, we did not choose to have a starter. When our bill arrived, we were surprised that they had added a £7+ tip(I prefer to leave a tip of my own choice) as well as a £5 cover charge. We queried the cover charge and was told it was for the bread — we were given four slices and two small rolls. We told the waiter in no uncertain terms he could take off the cover charge or the tip, we were not going to pay both. Naturally he took off the £5 cover charge, saying it wasn’t his restaurant and therefore not his problem. Perhaps if the owner of La Capanna was not so greedy his restaurant would have more custom. We will not be eating there again.

La Capana has always been the best around, the sheer excellence of the food, and the standard of the service. If you can, go there once and find out for yourself please.

La Capanna is by far, the best restaurant around. It is voted as the most romantic restaurant in Surrey and it does not disappoint! The setting is outstanding, the décor is cosy and warm, slightly old-fashioned and decadent! I love it. The waiting staff are exceptional, very efficient, helpful and definitely add to the experience. Last time I was there it was my birthday and they all brought out a cake singing. It was delightful! The food is outstanding, fine dining at it’s best, and they specialise in fish dishes. The wine list is very extensive and very expensive but again adds to the experience of the evening. They occassionaly have a jazz ban playing in the corner which I adore. Not only is the food to die for, but the whole experience of La Capanna is what makes this place special. I adore going.
