Items ordered: Comensal Margherita Margarita Queso Fundido Taco De Cochinita Pibil Pastor tacos Tulum Ceviche tostada Flan Mousse de cajeta The drinks were great, the ambiance and décor were great but the sense that the staff wanted a quick turnover was never more evident than when all the food came out at once and we were asked if wanted anything else. It was just the vibe, maybe i’m not explaining it well. Lets begin with the queso that was NOT queso. I mean, ok, yes, queso in spanish means cheese and technically it is cheese but seriously, it is NOTQUESO. I don’t think the staff has ever tried queso, and if they have they would advise customers about it truly is. Its Monterrey jack melted with some chipotle salsa mixed in. um no. That is not QUESO. GO over to Bodeans and order some proper queso and then compare with what you’re serving. No one wants a deconstructed quesadilla. Served with warm tortillas no less. How the hell am i supposed to eat melted greasy cheese tub with wilted tortillas?! Honestly, i could’ve used a tutorial. If you’re wondering why i didn’t complain about it, the answer is i couldn’t. My hungry and ginormous husband at the whole damn thing so I couldn’t complain to staff about it even though i asked him not to eat it(he didn’t like it either) but if you’ve ever met him you’d know there’s pretty much nothing he won’t eat, except for raw tomatoes. Check yourself Comensal, before you wrickety wreck yourself. And by that i mean get some real queso up in the joint or take it off the menu because its stupid and misleading. Rant over. The tacos were good, really good. I really enjoyed them. Ceviche was(as always i find in london) chopped too big and lack luster. I needs lime, red onions, jalapenos, lemon, salt, white pepper, fish and cilantro to add some nice herbal flavah. Comensals was fish that was cut too big, lemon/lime juice, salt, blah blah meh, i can’t remember because it wasn’t memorable. but it was pretty boring. the mousse de cajeta is a mouse made of dulce de leche, as an argentine i bleed this stuff. or at least i wish i did. i’d be a cutter for sure. Nice texture, nice flavor even though super duper über sweet, was still nice. The flan was nice. Also very sweet, but hey, its flan. Would recommend this place again, but please don’t make the same mistakes i did. Learn from me. Save yourself.

I wasn’t even that hungry, but the food looked too tempting. Get.the.favorito. Soft taco with shrimp, chipotle sauce, avocados, and other goodness. Very yummy! Then I nibbled off of other people’s plates and those were all delicious too. Get the guac. Definitely get the guac. Alas, I didn’t try any of their drinks, but will next time.

Been here for a few drinks and a meal before. The service is really fun and friendly, the food is pretty darn good too. I got a few plates to share with my dining companion and we couldn’t get through them all, they were so big! The cocktails are really delicious though, I keep meaning to come back here for a proper go through their menu!

I rarely have too many bad meals I complain about but this was one of the worst I’ve had in London. I must say this was 4 months ago before Christmas but the taco meat was dry, the lamb chops too pricy for what we got. The other dishes were so forgettable. Did tell the manger this… not to be rude just to give him honest feedback. Service was slow too. The only good thing was the one that was most simple… the guacamole in a large wooden bowl! Was a bit sad leaving(and not for good reasons) as was so hungry still. Might have improved since but no way was I going back to be honest after that disastrous first visit.

Just the place we needed in Clapham… a proper Mexican restaurant! Love it! I discovered Comensal whilst grabbing a coffee on Abbeville one weekend, so dragged my brother out(as wifey was out that night). We went straight in for two Comensal cocktails(Reposado Tequila, Agave syrup, Mint, Lime and Red Chilli)… just what we needed after a stressful week. And then ordered ‘everything’(ok almost everything!) on the menu: Papas a la Diabla, Sopes, Carnitas, Sábana de Res, Quesadilla… unfortunately the table next to us had just ordered the last of the Ceviche, however it means that we will be coming back to sample that dish! We continued with a couple more Margarita’s, and although soooo so tempted we resisted the Churros(this time!) given how much we’d already consumed! Love the décor and atmosphere… and most importantly the food and cocktails were superb!

The food was great and the staff were friendly. It wasn’t packed when I showed up, but I can only assume it is because the secret hasn’t gotten out yet!

With the severe lack of good Mexican restaurants in London, Comensal in Abbeville Village stands out. Above average street food, well seasoned and portioned appropriately, which seems to be a rarity in most locales around ‘the Big Smoke’. The drinks were fairly strong which to my American palate was quite welcoming. A warm, welcoming environment and freshly prepared Latino fare. You can’t go wrong… They even have ceviche on the menu! I’ll be back for sure.

Went there last Saturday night with my wife. Great atmosphere and service, and the food closest I’ve had in the UK to authentic Mexican food. Had a few cocktails(good value) plus a selection from the street food menu — the quesadilla, cornitas, tostada, lentil soup, all excellent. Asking around, seems to be a new management team. Would certainly go back when next in the area.
