I went to Ewen Fields today from Manchester Piccadily as they run a direct train to Newton which is only half a mile away to the stadium, or a few minutes and around 3 pounds in a taxi with Radio Cars. The train I got was delayed hence I ended up missing the first few minutes of the game but with not many supporters turning up for the City Versus Schalke 04 match, I was still left with a seat, and I enjoyed the game with City winning 1 – 0 but the stadium was not as nice as what I am used to with the Etihad even though it was a good standard for the Conference North, As expected for a Conference team, Ewen Fields is a small stadium hence if the sun is shining low it is very likely to go in your eyes as a spectator and will not be blocked by the stands due to the small capacity of 4,073 the stadium has. Some advice I would give for a fellow City supporter, a Hyde Fan or an away fan attending this stadium would be to specify if you want a seat sat down, the stadium is mostly stood up with only 1 stand consisting of seats, for high profile matches you may have to get down to the game early as they is only 530 seats at the ground, the 11th highest capacity in the Conference North I must add, only 27 seats behind Victory Park of Chorley FC. I did not know if Ewen Fields would do any food gluten free, so I had a meal before I come hence I still fancied a cup of coffee with it being quite cold especially, I was careful as the way the players were kicking the balls over the stadium and into the stands I did not want it to hit me and to get scholed! What I didn’t like was a very simple thing they could of done, the coffee and other hot drinks were not served in Travel Cups instead they were just served in paper cups. I do feel that even a conference team should have Travel Cups as it isn’t a massive cost, It is not like I am telling them to get an All seater stadium with a capacity of 90,000 which would put Wembley to shame! Most of the staff working on the day were from Manchester City as it was a City Reserves Game which I attended however they did seem nice and polite. As I did come into the game late, I did not know how many minutes the game was in or the score, I presumed and later found out it was 0 – 0 however like at some stadiums(Etihad and Wembley), It would be useful for some sort of screen to tell you this information, I understand a Conference team can not necessarily do this but something similar would of been extremley useful! I liked at Half Time, they gave away Team sheets and announced that to tell the fans where they was giving them away, I jumped at the chance of getting one to see the players playing which I could not instantly recognise and just as a nice souvenir from the game because they didn’t have programmes as far as I am aware(I would not expect from a Reserve Friendly however) and I don’t normally get the chance of getting one from Premier League games. Overall, I think Ewen Fields is a nice stadium considering the league Hyde FC are in but I defiantly was too lenient on my last review, as it does not deserve 4 stars as it is certainly not up with the best stadiums in England.
