Great little English countryside pub and restaurant. Food was amazing. We would definitely return if we are in the area again.

A perfect British pub. Beautiful stone buildings, a great garden area for long summer days, friendly staff, and the best Sunday roast beef I’ve ever had. In short, it’s the sort of pub that’s worth travelling for.

Beautifully modernized English Inn. The gardens are perfect for outdoor dining on a nice summer day(like today). Staff were prompt and courteous. Menu is decent quality focusing on locally sourced ingredients. Quality of the food very good. Highly recommended.

Writing a review about this place was quite difficult because there are some aspects of this place that are 5 stars and some only 2. For ambience and character this place gets 5 stars, for wine list this place gets 4 stars for food this place gets 3 stars and for service this place gets 2 stars. For adding a 10% service charge automatically to the bill for poor service gets 1 star. It started off really well when 6 of us arrived for dinner and the menus looked fabulous and when the daily specials were announced I thought we were in for a treat. The first wine I selected for the night was not available and so I selected another wine which sounded good. The wine list was extensive and they had a wide array of wines from a number of different countries old and new world wines. I decided to order two starters instead of a starter and a main. I had the scallop ceviche which sounded fabulous but when it arrived it barely had any scallops mostly tomatoes and avocado and it was an ok dish. I ordered the Risotto special of the day with mushrooms and truffles and when the risotto arrived it looked excellent but the rice was a little bit too al Denne for my liking and the flavour was only ok and there were no truffles to found only truffle oil(which I think is cheating). The pear, rocket and blue cheese salad side was really good and the Lyonnaise potatoes were also delicious. The service through the night just got worse and we sat for quite a long time with no water or anyone checking up on us. There was quite a few staff at the place but the service seemed very disorganised and random. Eventually I flagged someone down to order dessert and we shared a Marathon Pudding with Salted Caramel Ice-cream and Orange Marmalade Pudding. The Marathon pudding was quite inconsistent as we had two of those and one had a nice gooey liquid centre and the other one had none of that. The ice cream had no real salted caramel flavour and it was ok. The Orange Marmalade pudding on the other hand was excellent and the flavours were fabulous. That was the best dish of the night in my opinion. Coffee here was also good. Maybe people in England don’t mind but I get really annoyed when a place includes a 10% service up front with the bill. I don’t have a problem paying more than 10% for good service and great food but in this instance I would not have done so. This is a practice that needs to stop as it is awkward asking for something to be taken off the bill. All in all it was a very mixed experience and once again trying to eat in place during a busy night for the first time is not a great idea but if the place is organised and well run then it should not matter. I may come back there again as the ambience is great and the wine list is fabulous but for the food and service I would probably not return here again. Not one of us said it was a great meal, six out of six said it was ok.

YES: The staff, the house, the rooms, the village, everything on the menu. DON’T: …leave.
