Poor Value. Dec 2010. Lovely décor and pianist, the rest is downhill. We eat out lots and this was so so disappointing. Staff were inattentive, we had to ask to be shown to our table, we had to ask for steak knives — in a «Steak Restaurant» ?? come on! We had to ask for finger bowls after having prawns. The steaks were not anything special and the Eton Mess was a small bowl of crème with a tablespoon of meringue mixed in, with chocolate drizzled over it all(including the exotic fruit which made it impossible to pick up and eat without getting messy). We all felt that the staff needed lots more training, and at £140 for four for 3 courses, we felt it was not good value at all. Real shame, we may try again in 6 months to see if things have improved otherwise this will get crossed off the list in favour of many other better places.

After a fire this restaurant was completely refurbished and reopened in April 2008. I visited there recently with my family for my father’s 80th birthday. From the moment we arrived the staff were very attentive and friendly which we all found impressive. They have a great menu and wine list and even though my party consisted of various ages and tasted everyone found something they liked the sound of. Better still everyone enjoyed their meals and I do not think there was one plate that we not completely empty at the end of the meal. Surely always a sign of good food? The waitress also produced a birthday cake complete with candles(although not 80 of them!) which was completely unexpected. I thought this was a very nice touch. There is a reasonable size car park outside which is very convenient especially if it is cold or raining.
