The gym is fine and I enjoyed using it. Unfortunately, I can’t any longer as I work and live 20 miles away. Staff at Vitality did not seem interested in my concerns and referred me to a company called Harlands Group who deal with contracts and payments. Despite asking for evidence(which I have sent, including a map), they are very reluctant to release me from contract. The only way I can use the gym is to make a 2 hour trip. With a 1 hour gym session, that is my night gone, or a day(2 sessions) over a weekend. Despite pleading with both Harlands and Vitality to reconsider this nonsensical approach, they have not replied. This unfortunately makes me believe that they are motivated by money and not good customer care. Sadly, I would have returned to the gym and recommended this to others. Sadly, not anymore. The whole experience has left me feeling very disappointed. I would recommend a more established gym, one that values its members.

There’s a a plethora of gyms within short walking distance of each other in this part of the city centre: the Hilton’s LivingWell gym, the Laguna Health & Spa at the Park Plaza Hotel, and Vitality, which is upstairs above Henry’s Bar on Park Place. This has created plenty of competition to attract membership, and there are nearly always promotional deals at these gyms to try to lure you in. Vitality loses out with many people, however, because it doesn’t have a swimming pool, and the other two do. If you’re not going to use a pool, however, you’ll probably get better value here than you would at either of the other two — plus they do have a sauna and steam room for relaxation. And unlike LivingWell, they do offer a huge timetable of classes, most of which are included in the membership fee, so this is a great city centre gym for those that like group aerobics, dance, pilates, spin, pole dancing, and so on. Vitality’s main gym area is large, air conditioned and excellently equipped, although it’s not the most inspiring space to exercise in. They have a large number of cardio vascular machines plus fixed resistance equipment, free weights, and so on. For serious gym goers, this would beat LivingWell, I think — but for those like me that enjoy the leisure side of the gym, mainly swimming, sauna and jacuzzi, the small LivingWell gym is a good bet.
