Popped in the Friday before Christmas because everywhere else in the Bay was heaving and noisy. Had seen this pub sprout up in place of the Purple Lounge and that Fusion restaurant before it and was dying to see if it was a proper old man’s Bute pub or a young ‘un’s bar. Turns out, it’s got a real old Cardiff Bay feel to it(not quite as much as The White Heart on James Street, but more so than the Ely Jenkins). I heard someone describe it as a spit and sawdust pub and it’s kind of fitting(which is great; there hasn’t been a proper spit & sawdust in Cardiff since the Horse and Groom on Womanby closed down(Damn you Wetherspoons!)). Managed to snag a table and have a fab time. The best bit of all though was on entry. Went to the bar and asked what wines they had, to which the barman answered ‘red or white’. Swear to God. It was straight out of Hot Fuzz! I’ll definitely be back(i forgot to mention, compared to the most of the bay it’s cheap, cheap, cheap).
