As well as working with his wife Judith in Laura’s Greengrocers and Florists, their jointly owned fruit and veg shop, (that also stocks a good range of plants as well as the flowers flowers), Richard Swanbow turns his hand to landscape gardening in the afternoons. It’s an arrangement that works well. It means that he can help with the heavy work associated with stocking the shop in the mornings, and then can move onto his regular gardening clients safe in the knowledge that everything has been taken care of.
Richard is not a greedy man, and is often called out to one-​off jobs where people have been charged a fortune for shoddy workmanship that needs rectifying. This kind of thing doesn’t sit well with him. Charging a fair rate, he often ends up being the regular gardener for these unfortunate people. He laughs when he tells you that he likes to play fair, explaining that his clients know where to find him if they need to… so there’s no way he could get away with any shenanigans even if he wanted to!
