If only the Penylan Fish and Chip Bar had the business sense to move their store just a little bit closer to Pen-y-lan hill, they’d start absolutely raking it in. Attending St. David’s College and being part of the theatre department meant a lot of my half-term days were spent sat in the theatre auditorium painting sets, or constructing props, or rehearsing lines. Naturally, come lunchtime we’d all bolt for the nearest food establishment, which is Wellfield Road. However, on those rare days when someone had their car with them, I threw tantrums until we drove down to Penylan Chip Bar. As already noted, their fish and chips are excellent. The food is cooked perfectly, and it’s easy to see why they’ve won so many awards for it. My favourite part of the entire thing though is the fact that they wrap their food up in old newspaper-esque wrapping, giving it that wonderful One Foot In The Grave aura that other chip shops have been so eager to discard.

There is nothing worse than looking forward to fish & chips with curry sauce, getting it home and it being horrid. That’s why I rarely go to a fish and chip shop I don’t know — if i do it has to be highly recommended. Years ago — I’d just moved into my first flat in the Penylan area. It needed a lot of work and so I was painting it. I had no food in so I decided to get some chips. Not knowing the area I asked my new next door neighbour who recommended Penylan Fish Bar. He wasn’t wrong — I can see why they have won awards — chips were perfect as was their golden battered cod. As I scoffed the lot i sat in my empty part decorated flat and thought to myself, «I am now living next door to an award winning chippy — result!»

Love your fish chips? Because I do… The fish is scrumptious here is this neat little fish and chip shop, where you can buy it all readymade and fresh and hot to take away in crinkly, newspaper like paper. The people here are very friendly and welcoming and serve you promptly. The prices are considerably good considering the amount of hot food for you, that there is to eat. The name alone already states the area that it is situated within, so it is a very local company and it is the perfect fish and chips take away for those that live locally. We have been here a number of times and we did not have to wait too long. It is accessible on bus route, although I am not sure which bus route as we have only been down by car before. Just type the name in on Google and your surely soon to find out all the information that you need to find out; about how to get there, where it is and what exactly it looks like, so that you’ll know what to look out for when you get there. I do sincerely recommend it to all…
