I enjoy Chinese food nearly as much as I enjoy Italian and Lucky Chef is no exception as it is a good take away. Most of the Chinese takeaways in Cathays has a similar poor décor it’s just a place you don’t visit to often and there’s no seating you should pick up yourself if you don’t want a long wait. The duck meals are good and price is reasonable. There are a few problems though; firstly they are on a main street that has no parking so pickups are on foot i.e. you should live near by, secondly it’s next to bar element so avoid during kicking out time.

From the outside Lucky Chef looks a little bit dingy — not awfully so, but not great. I think that it doesn’t help that it’s in between two buildings that look as though they have recently been done up. Anyway, getting past the outside appearances, the food here is lovely. The service, on the other hand, is not so great. I want to stress that it was not rude or anything. It’s just that I’ve never had to wait quite so long for my food, or so it felt. You expect to have to wait a little longer on weekends but even so I felt it took far too long. I guess that this means that it’s a very popular takeaway. And rightly so, really. Once the food was ready, I found it to be almost perfect.
