This is a very neat little shop. When I’m feeling really adventurous and want to walk a whole two streets over, I’m always pleased I did when I get in there. It is the quintessential corner shop. It is on a corner and has everything you could want from a corner shop. Unfortunately it stocks the same sandwiches as the other shops in the area, and they’re really not great. Otherwise the shop is very clean and the staff are lovely. Very friendly and always happy and smiley. And the extra two minutes walk can’t be doing me any harm either?!

Cyfartha Stores is everything you’d expect of your local corner shop, chilled four packs(including Holsten Pils which you only ever seem to find in places like this, man that beer fell from grace, it used to be on the Tottenham Hostpur shirt years ago, not that that’s a particularly graceful place from which to fall I suppose), a small selection of frozen Birdseye Ready Meals, all of the mainstream papers, a bit of bongo and the kind of sweets so laced with sugar and e-numbers you have to wonder of their legality. Cyfartha Stores packs in a lot of stock in a relatively small space and it is nice to see a small selection of fruit and veg for sale, and positioned next to the aforementioned sweets, though I imagine the kids at the local primary bypass it. With friendly service and all the essentials, what more could you ask for from your local corner shop?

A bit of a Jack of all trades is Cyfarthfa, being a convenience shop and all. And convenience generally means slightly higher prices which is a bit of a shame, but is a lot better than have to fight the population to buy what you want. It’s past my way home from work generally and have popped in many a time in the mornings for my newspaper and a bit too eat, and then a bottle of wine for the evening when the lovely is round.

The man behind the counter was a bit of an impatient grump when I went in, but maybe he was just having an off day. I like this store as it has a good selection of food, drink, newspapers etc and is very handy if you live near. I’ve often stopped on my way home after visiting friends to grab a bottle of wine or a newspaper etc. It’s perfect if you don’t fancy tackling the human traffic on City Rd. I don’t remember it being particularly cheap, but then what convenience store is?
