This is a female-only hall of residence belonging to Cardiff University, offering both catered and self catering accommodation for up to 131 students at a time, in a beautiful old red brick building right at the heart of the University campus. When I was in my first year at Cardiff University, living in Tal-y-bont Halls, Aberdare Hall was widely regarded as the strictest and most traditional place to live out of all the student accommodation options available, and I doubt much has changed since. Whereas the more modern student accommodation offers flats containing rooms with their own en suite bathrooms, Aberdare Hall is still has shared bathrooms. As is the case with all university halls, however, it’s got good on site facilities including a laundry, gardens, a library, a common room, a bicycle shed, and a network connection point. It’s also very conveniently located, with the nearest supermarket(Lidl) on Maindy Road just about five minutes’ walk away; it’s also close to the student union and Park Place sports facilities(both within about a five minute walk) and the city centre(about a 10 – 15 minute walk).
