pleasant pub, surprisingly good pizza, very reasonable prices. Good atmosphere inside and a nice garden. Only a short walk from central Cambridge with a nice, large park in between.

Fantastic local pub in Newnham. Come for the seriously tasty pizza, stay for the beer and the cozy fire. When it’s warm, the patio is very nice.

I came here for a Cambridge University Brass Band reunion party with my partner. When we arrived, we were starving so we made sure to order food fairly quickly. And beer. You have to have lots of beer when you’re with the brass band(it’s just a rule, I didn’t make it). The beer selection at the pub was really great and one of the beers we had was really enjoyable, so that always makes for a good day. I ordered a calzone(apparently all the pizzas can be done as calzones and since my partner was getting the same one, I opted to go for the calzone route). We started with nachos and also got a side of arrabiata chips. The nachos came out quite quickly, and were basically just chips, cheese and jalapenos served with salsa and sour cream. But they were really tasty nachos. Our pizzas then took quite awhile to come out as some of the other people who ordered after us were starting to get their food(probably due to the nacho starters). When our pizzas came out, they looked really nice. The calzone was also served with a small salad on the side so it was totally healthy that way. And it was really tasty as well. So were the fries. I really can’t complain about anything except maybe the speed. They probably only have room for one or two pizzas at a time, so a larger group ordering a bunch of pizzas probably took a lot of time. But we were there to relax and hang out, so drinking some extra beer while waiting wasn’t really an issue. I was really happy with Red Bull and would probably come back here any time we go back to Cambridge.

Pizzas are great, beer average, Service probably some of the best in Cambridge, staff are friendly but I may be a bit biased. Would recommend, especially on the weekend when they have a 2 for 1 deal on the main meals

Visited this pub for a 3 course meal and it was absolutely without fault. It was the hottest day in August and I had no appetite, yet the moment I saw the dishes I quickly changed my mind. Lovely authentic Italian style pizzas and salads. Outdoor seating, ample parking, not too busy. The owner was helpful and accomodating. I had a lovely afternoon and I would(and have) recommend this pub to anyone.

The pizzas are pretty damn good. I’ll give them that. Also, the beer selection is also pretty good. No problems there. The bar was pretty crowded due to school just starting up, so I’m not going to blame them for that either. Here are some of the problems: — Our table was sticky. The type of sticky where your napkin won’t come off when you put it on the table. The bartender/server told us that it was a «sticky» type of table. Right. — I ordered a drink and dinner. My dinner never came while the rest of my friends did. I ordered a salad and they ordered pizzas. One would assume the salad would be quicker. — My salad never came so I asked the server. He told me that he didn’t take my order and I had to talk to the other guy. Where I’m from the responsibility to clean up a mistake should not ride on the customer. — They told me that my order was not in the cook’s queue so they would have to put it back in. By this time my friends were finished eating so I cancelled my order. The upside is that they were quick to give me a refund. I have no complaints there: «we’re sorry here’s your cash.» It was efficient. Needless to say, I won’t be returning. There are plenty of other pubs in Cambridge. The real secret is will Unilocal become enough of a force here to make a difference? I hope so.

Been here a few times as it is effectively our local. Great little pub with a really interesting menu. Much less pompous than some gastropubs, which could be a good or bad thing depending on your taste, e.g. there’s music playing and a big TV in the main room. You can eat away from that in the side room though, so actually there’s something for everyone. There’s a nice little bit by the fireplace in winter. In terms of drinks there’s always a decent selection. Have had guest ales, San Miguel and a guest ciders, all of which were delicious. Went for food once and had some of the pizza dishes and some of the British stuff(fish and chips) and everything was really tasty and nicely presented.

Really solid pub. The owner of this place also owns The Anchor and a couple of other places. However, the chef here is the former head chef at an Italian place, and he makes a really good Calzone. Seriously. Pizzas are also very good. Decent variety of beers on tap, with three or four cask ales. Usually a rugby match or football match playing on the television. And free Wi-Fi. Yes, you read that correctly. Free Wi-Fi. Not sure how that meshes into the English Pub ambience, but I ain’t complaining. Btw — Wednesday nights are 20% off for Cambridge students. And I believe there’s a two-for-one pizza night, too.

The Red Bull offers a very decent selection of good quality italian inspired pub food. Unlike many other gastro pubs it has a very friendly and traditional atmospere: wooden floors, no loud music and just one(!) TV in the corner. It is situated off the city centre but within comfortable walking distance. The restaurant has a patio in the back, which suffers slighlty from traffic on Barton Road. The speciality is stone oven baked pizza. On Monday nights there is a popular 2-for-1 pizza offer in the evening, which means that a freshly stone-oven baked delicious pizza is available from 3,50GBP onwards! Most menu items are under 10GBP and offer excellent quality. Service is very friendly but sometimes a full pub results in longer waits. It has a good selection of draft wheat ales. Verdict: secret tip for foodies on a budget.

This beautiful traditional pub is a little distance from town. It saddens me how a number of traditional pubs are disappearing only to be replaced with loud music bars that are often filled with troublemakers. Anyway, this pub is undergoing some refurbishment, but don’t be scared off with the scaffoldings that would soon come off once the refurbishment is over. The atmosphere is friendly with the welcoming crowd you meet. They offer the normal pub grub(just tastier), roast, pizza etc and the food is served in good-sized portion. Verdict: Excellent
