Vue Bury

I recently visited the new Vue cinema at The Rock in Bury and it was a dire experience. Went to the first showing of the day and the manager didn’t open the doors until 5 minutes after the film was supposed to start. We then had to wait to get tickets and drinks, etc. even though we were the first ones in the door as the staff weren’t ready but there were 5 staff at the counter. Like all Vue cinemas you couldn’t book Orange Wednesday tickets in the self service machines so had to queue but as we were buying drinks and food as well this wasn’t so much of an issue. The staff have to pick your seats as you buy the tickets so you never get the seats you want. The nachos are like little discs of plastic covered in watery vinegar and go really soggy and cold really quickly and are just unpleasant. Everything was overpriced as well, even compared to the Odeon. Screen was good with a great picture but the sound was a touch too loud.

Unfortunately this Cinema has gone downhill fast with other Cinemas opening locally. The recent Road closure on Hollins Brow will not have helped either.
The choice of Films is not huge and the staffing is Minimal at best, parking however is very good.
It’s a bit like a Ghost Town unfortunately from a cinema that used to have people queued out of the doors.
Don’t go here for the Atmosphere, but if you want peace and quite while you watch a film, it’s great.

this cinema has really gone downhill and could do with a massive facelift.
the last time i went it was dirty, old popcorn everywhere etc, the toilets were not clean either.
it is very expensive, especially for food and drink which wasn’t very nice.
i think the reason this cinema has been neglected is because it will be closing down to make way for a new cinema located on the rock in bury, on the new development site.

I agree with other comments, a little dated and the sound was far too loud (and i’m not old!) it made me feel sick.

I have been going to Vue for years now and is getting a bit old now, but its not falling apart like others are suggesting. The prices are high but its like many of the cinemas in the area. Food can be expensive, we usually get stuff from adsa across the road. The staff are very helpful and friendly. There was a small sweet shop which is now shut and there was a small arcade which now has only a few games and nearly all are broken. Other than this the cinema is kept clean and tidy. The screen rooms are usually cleaned to a good standard before the movie and the chairs are just about comfy. I would recommend Cineworld Bolton.

Vue Bury used to be my preferred choice of cinemas when I fancied watching a movie. But these days it isnt as good as it used to be and the prices are just getting ridiculous. As previously said it is beginning to show its age and in my opinion could do with a renovation to freshen things up but well worth a visit as they have so many screens that the movies tend to hang round longer so you have more chance of seeing them in a calmer atmosphere than the first few manic days after release. One of my most memorable memories of Bury Vue was when I turned up for a late showing of a movie to find the whole place full of people in costume or drag and the reason was they were showing Rocky Horror Picture Show and they had all come to watch that complete with buns to throw at the screen. Dont ask my why but they did

Still my favourite vue cinema, although looking a bit shabby now. Situated just off the M66 mcdonalds, large asda, chiquitos, bowling, pub with great kids facilities all next door.

One of the North West’s oldest multiplex cinemas, Vue Cinema at Pilsworth is starting to look a little dated now. It boasts around a dozen large screen cinemas within the one complex, which show the latest releases alongside returning classics.
The age of the cinema is starting to act against it. The seating is on gently sloping floors in the main screens, rather than the newer style banked seating you might find at more modern multiplexes. The sound systems in the smaller screens are also starting to feel dated.
As with all cinema complexes, refreshments are offered in the form of ice creams, popcorn, sweets, pick and mix etc etc, but of course they suffer from massive price hikes compared to the high street. It’s probably best to either eat before you go or take something with you!
Vue cinemas do offer good deals for kids, and they honour the Orange Wednesday 2 for 1 offer. Saturday mornings are given over to cheap family showings, which can be good value. The cinema chain does lack a monthly membership option, which is not ideal for the regular visitor or for people who want to go to filsm multiple times — it can get expensive — I’d recommend the Cineworld Unlimited card for that demographic!
One area that is well catered for at Vue Bury is parking. The cinema is part of a large complex which includes Asda, a number of good restaurants (pizza hut, frankie and benny, chiquito) and a bowling alley.
The cinema is due to be moved to Buy town centre’s new development in ²⁰⁰⁹⁄₁₀ so get there while you still can!
