Bennett’s Quality Meats

Yep Sophie, Bennett’s does look fancy! and yep it always looks empty. People tend to mill around the periphery before actually going in, but that could be due to the overwhelming butchers smell that oozes out of this quality meat establishment.
It does all look like a grand affair, but i will make a confession, the large butcher, surly looking bloke, very Fred Elliot from Corrie a few years back, well, when i was little he used to scare the hell out of me, his eyes all accusing me, as if i was going to run in and tamper with the quality of the meats. He’s long gone now, well i haven’t seen him in years, but there’s still an aesthetic worry about the place.
Anyhoo, competing with the fish and meat hall is a major issue for Bennett’s as it literally resides within spitting distance of the other, and whilst the food hall is a more shouty «get yer blah blah blah for blah blah blah» Bennett’s is a stand silent and let the quality do the talking.
The meat itself is nice, never had issue with it, but it’s a bit on the expensive side, and especialyl when you compare it to the food hall just over yonder, but as Sophie points out, the lunchtime food selection is yum!

Doesn’t Bennett’s look fancy? It always looks very empty though, perhaps because it has tried to make itself look upmarket rather than the family butchers with a heritage that it is. Also, it has stiff competition from the Fish and Meat Hall which it is right on top of — at the further end of Princess Parade.
Still, they have a good selection here of lamb, matured beef, pork and chicken and competitive prices. They also charmingly have against the back wall, various accompaniments and other bits and bobs that you might need.
On top of this, they do have a bit of a roaring lunch trade — lots of muffins with anything you want on, burgers and kebabs and in their hot counter they also have home made chilli, cottage pie and potato pie. Yum.
