The Burnt Gate

Just on the outskirts of Anslow is the Burnt Gate, an impressive looking pub, with a washed white frontage, punctuated with splashes of colour from the window-​boxes. A sizeable car park to the side, which rapidly fills due to the restaurant’s popularity, so its probably best to book a table if you want to dine. The interior had a warm and inviting feel, with interesting quotations stencilled onto the walls. The first thing that hits you once you get to the Burnt Gate is the staff: professional, helpful and friendly, a promising start. The seating area for dining is a fairly substantial size, with a modern touch and the right amount of spacing between the tables.
The menu was fairly comprehensive, if a little expensive, but there was a great variety of mains from Tiger prawn linguini to Beer battered fish and chips. My wife opted for the lamb shoulder with roast potatoes, blackberries and a vegetable selection of carrots, spring cabbage and beans, which turned out to be a great dish, full of flavour. For some inexplicable reason, with all the great dishes on the menu, I plumped for a burger; still it proved to be an inspired choice — homemade, cooked to perfection, topped with Stilton, fresh tomatoes, lettuce and a side order of great chips.
Of course a meal isn’t complete without a dessert, wincing slightly at the price (on average £5), we opted for an Eton Mess and an Apple Pie. The Eton Mess was reasonable, but probably not worth £5.50. However, the apple pie was the real disappointment, soggy pastry, insipid custard, the desserts just didn’t match the superb quality of the mains!
Overall an enjoyable meal with superb service, but next time we will go for the starter — main course combination.

Nice friendly pub, good starters soups, very good main meals and well presented but no crowd pulling desserts here, service is 100 percent but overall a bit expensive compared to other surrounding establishments.

Excellent service at this wonderful award winning country pub and restaurant. The food is all sourced locally and cooked to perfection. Well known chefs Raymond Blanc and Shaun Hill have both been on panels of judges that have placed the Burnt Gate as a winner for food and drink excellence for the Heart of England.
All tastes are catered for with special diet requirements with Gluten Free, Dairy Free and Vegetarian options all on offer. This pub also offers a childs menu with proper food.
It is worth booking for their Sunday lunch sitting, but generally we have found that weekday evening are quite quiet and relaxed.
