Cheap food and cheap drinks that is the only bonus. Pub itself is in desperate need of a refurbishment. Lighting is very poor which makes the place look dark and dismal. They never have enough staff on. Tables are normally left dirty for long periods of time due to only usually one member of staff running around like a headless chicken serving food. Management very poor with inadequate customer service skills. Avoid Tuesday steak nights like the plague! Steak(and I use the term lightly) is mainly a lump of gristle. Not a place I recommend, but as they serve cheap drinks is a place to have a few before moving on to a nicer venue.

This was actually my first time eating in a Wetherspoon’s, and while the food isn’t great, it’s nice to have somewhere with a good selection that is both affordable and predictable. You know exactly what you’re getting, don’t you! Lots of the food/drink deals are really quite good. This one in Brixham is a bit dim and dreary, not good lighting from the windows I guess, and has some pirate-themed décor to match the feel of the town. I got the«Freedom salad» with chicken, which sounds like something we’d have in America a-la Freedom Fries but isn’t…and my boyfriend got the Superfood Pasta. The Freedom Salad was my favorite — large pearl couscous with chickpeas, soya beans, red peppers, lentils, pomegranate seeds, and more on a bed of rocket. Really surprisingly fresh tasting and a healthier choice by far than you can get in most pubs! The superfood pasta also had lots of fresh vegetables, though the pasta was a bit soft and not really blended well with the pesto sauce. I thought the salad had more flavor. Both came with a drink, but we were dull and just chose tea. I tend to prefer eating at local places, but if you’re a bit choosy and know what you like and what you don’t like, The Vigilance is a safe, solid choice.

Wetherspoons always go pretty good food at very cheap prices, with a good selection of drinks. This one is no different. Although it seems quite dark because it goes quite a long way back, it does offer a good evening out with a few friends when you don’t want to go all the way to Torquay. Its quite big so doesn’t get really packed like some places. Its good fun on New Years Eve when everyone dresses up in lots of different outfits! There is a wide range of drinks on offer including cocktails, beers, ales, wines and shots as you would expect with most pubs.

I use Wetherspoon’s quite a few times a year as it is most convenient more than anything. It is overall not too bad, not that I would go recommending to anyone. The food is not piping hot but comes out fairly hot. Quite a poor service, very cramped and quite lively/noisy, but good for a hot meal and cheap couple of drinks before jetting off!
