My former choice of takeaway before I popped to Karachi, Willow is a fantastic little Chinese takeaway(with a few English options thrown in for added measure!) The cantonese chicken balls were really nice, and the sweet and sour sauce hit every taste bud perfectly in my mouth, forfilling in me exactly what a wanted! With various takeaway establishments to choose from on this section of st johns road, you will soon come to realsie that you wont make a mistake whichever one you choose to go to, they are all pretty good, much better than some of the greasy places located nearer to the centre.

Willow Curry bar seems to be very popular, its always busy, the staff are quick and polite. Western food(fish and chips) seems to be nearly more popular than the Chinese food among the locals ordering. While the food from here was ok, I never found it great. Granted when this became my local, I had just moved from London where the Chinese food was great. I really think that by trying to be a jack of all trades(fish and chips and chinese), Chinese restaurants in Bristol end up being a master of none. The food from here is fresh and the service is friendly. There must be some reason this place always has big queues, I just haven’t had the dish from here that says ‘worth waiting for’.

This is a great little Chinese takeaway. A family-run business, Willow Curry Bar is popular with locals and famed for its competitive prices and quality food. I sampled a Chicken Chow Mein dish here a few weeks ago(circa £4) and it was delicious — the meat was beautifully tender and the rice was silky soft. The staff were really friendly too, and pleased to chat whilst I waited for my food. If Chinese food isn’t your bag, Willow Curry Bar also serve a variety of English dishes, including what I’m told are first class fish and chips. So if you should find yourself in the area, and are feeling a bit peckish, don’t let the takeaway’s drab exterior put you off. This place has hidden culinary depths…
