Seafood pie was excellent and the vegetables were also good. The cod in batter was Ok but not as good as the fish and chip shop in Westbourne Rd. The bread and butter was surprisingly disappointing as the bread was very cold as though it had just been defrosted and the butter was also straight from the fridge. Lovely staff very attentive and altogether a good atmosphere.

I always seem to get really mixed service and quality at the vintage inn’s. Sometimes the food is really good and sometimes it’s average, this trip was definitely the latter. I took my folks there for lunch, we’d been before and expectations were pretty high as our last experience had been great. The place was empty so we had pick of seats and service was quick so couldn’t complain about that, however they brought a colouring sheet for my son, but no crayons. We requested them at bar and were told they’d find us some but they didn’t come back with them until after our food arrived about 20 minutes later! Then the food, I ordered the salt beef hash which was delicious, this came with fried eggs on top which were cooked to perfection, however my step mum ordered the same and the eggs were overdone. I ordered tomato pasta for my 1.5 year old son, he normally loves pasta but wouldn’t even eat this as the pasta was underdone and it was dry with barely any sauce. The food came quickly which was good but overall the standard was disappointing

The Willy Wicket is a decent pub/restaurant just out of town, in between Downend and Kendleshire. It’s a typical restaurant for this kind of area: country pub feel with a predictable menu. A couple of ales and lagers on tap, a token cider and a few over prices wines and spirits. Although that may sound rather uninspiring, the Willy Wicket serves a purpose and it does it pretty well. It is a decent place for a family meal or to go for a Sunday lunch, which they do particularly well. The atmosphere is ‘family birthday’ if that makes sense? It’s the type of restaurant you go with your parents and grandparents for your 15th birthday or for your granddads 68th; a birthday that seems more important than it actually is. Its the kind of place that your nan will get dressed up for, your granddad will comb his hair and your mum scrapes the plates and puts them on top of each other to help the waitress out — or was that just my mum? Anyway, it’s that kind of place! The menus is classic country pub. You’ll find words like ‘Mediterranean’ in front of vegetables, ‘Vintage’ in front of pie and ‘Hearty’ in front of anything that’s warm. You know the kind of menu I’m on about — we’ve all seen one before! If you haven’t been to the Willy Wicket before, you’ll more than likely have been somewhere similar. You’ll have eaten similar food and you’ll definitely have watched your granddad crack the same jokes with similarly aged waitresses. But its worth the Déjà vu. It’s a decent place!

This place is a must visit when in the local area ! I love the rural character of the willy wicket, it’s a great charm in my eyes. It can become busy on a Sunday so would advise to book. The prices are ok for the food that is served, The staff were brilliant very cheerful considering it was a Sunday and extremely busy. I had the Vintage Sunday roast platter for one. It was a great dish full of fantastic flavour. Just what those taste buds require on a Sunday. My only problem, there were to many sides that I wanted to add not a problem for the food or pub but a problem for the bank balance ! Plenty of parking on site. Overall a fantastic pub full of character that serves great food ! Will definitely visit this place again.

Ive enjoyed many a meal in the Willy Wicket. And I was expecting this visit to be no exception. We were celebrating my parents wedding anniversary and it was a toss up between here and The Lamb. Asphetically the Willy Wicket is a lovely place to be with ye old country pub feel. Lots of exposed stone work and wooden beams. Upon arrival we patiently waited while the hopless bar manager attempted to serve the customer before us. I think the poor manager must of had amnesia as he could not retain anything anyone said to him ! And thus it took him about 10 long minutes for him to get to us. After that it all slipped down hill. They were obviously busy and having trouble coping with the custom. I had the onion soup for starter which although tasty had the consistency of mashed potatoe. Then came our mains hunter chicken a dry sad affair which im trying to block out of my memory. Even the peas were dry and over cooked. But as we had been waiting for an hour and were rather hungry we ate most of this over priced rubbish. The best part of the meal was them not having any mayo and then only being alowed one tea spoon of ketchup as they were running out that as well. I mean the waiter literally snatched it back of us ! Needless to say I will never come back here again ! I strongly advise anyone thinking of comming here tk either go to The Lamb in mangitsfield or The Beefeater or stay at home !!!

I love the willy wicket! We come here often for Sunday lunch as it’s definitely one of out favourite places. The food is always delicious and there is plenty of it. I’m very fussy when it comes to food, especially Sunday lunch and here I haven’t been disappointed. The place itself is a lovely, very quaint with a relaxed atmosphere and the staff are extremely helpful and accommodating. Only gripe I have is that it can be really hard to get a table on a Sunday, so you need to book in advance to avoid disappointment.

I really enjoyed my visit to the Willy Wicket tonight. We went with a couple of friends and all enjoyed our meals. The building it’s self is a refurbished farm house, as a kid I remember driving past this as a derelict farm house think wow I want to live in there and about ten years ago this place was dressed up very nicely. The décor is what you’d expect of a recently renovated pub, it’s warm and welcoming and has some ‘interesting’ art work. Again the menu is standard pub menu, with the usual classic of fish and chips, pie and chips and well, gammon and chips. They do other bits as well, such as salmon with crushed potatoes and lamb shank. I had the gammon and chips, this was really good and gets extra marks because it’s served with egg AND pineapple, always a winning combo! This cost just under £8 and was really good value. I then naughtily looked at the dessert menu which is when the wedding diet ran off and left me, I had the chocolate and peanut butter cheesecake and oh my good this was epic! In fact the whole table went quite whilst we ate our various desserts. Yummy! The service was good, staff were friendly, welcoming and attentive. Although it was clear they were short staffed tonight as we did have to wait some time for our food, it was worth the wait though. I’ll definitely be back.

I went with a mate of mine and found the food to be above average. Great atmosphere and the manager was fairly efficient.

One star is too much for this pub — avoid. I went there for my wedding anniversary and the service was appaling. Staff have a don’t care attitude. Try the Huntsman on Westerleigh road or the Langley Arms in Guest avenue

not bad food and its reputation means that it is always busy. Thats sometimes a bit of a drawback. But not deserving of the lower scores here IMVHO

Booked a table onkine and asked for a highchair to be set up for us. When we got there, we found that half our party was at one of the pub on one table and we were ushered to the other end on another table, both set up for us ??? Neither of which had a highchair. After finally getting seated and a highchair the waitress brought us menus, but she didn’t have the set price menus which are on their website and she had no child menus. She said she would find us a child’s manu and that was the last we saw of her. We had to hunt down our own child’s menu. The food was smaller than usual and not as good as it used to be. There was no one to offer sauces and we had to keep queuing to get drinks from the packed bar. Very dissapointed in the poor service. Also no Fruit Shoots and no real choice of soft drinks.

Nice pub, very countryfied, but also quite expensive. Posh names given to normal food, and also posh prices. No really a family pub, more for older people that have retired and enjoy a different atomsphere

Returned to visit after a while, with the pub open after refurbishment. However, some refurbishment was still going on at the time we arrived! Of the food ordered, the gammon was cold, the eggs congealed, the Candied Pecans in the Stilton salad were actually pine nuts, and there was hardly any stilton in it! Despite being the second Customers in at lunchtime, it took in excess of 35 minutes to serve 3 meals. Not at all impressed, and, despite it being our local, it is unlikely we will bother going back in future.

A very dissappointed Family who used to enjoy the Willy Wicket. The food and service has unfortunately gone right downhill since the recent change in management. The sunday roasts are very dissappointing, the veg was partially frozen and the meat was tough. The place looks scruffy and the staff are sloppy. Get a grip Willy Wicket and sort yourself out, it doesn’t take much!

Although the Willy Wicket is a ‘chain pub’, the beautiful farmhouse conversion and interior give the pub a more unique feel. There is a good selection of wines and the menu is very reasonably priced and actually quite good quality. The car park is always full, and inside is always warm and inviting. Given the pub’s location near a main road, the beer garden is not the most chilled in summer so I would recommend the pub as a perfect winter drinking hole.
