Lovely place to sit by the river, the booze selection is not great but they have the standard ciders, lagers and ales, nothing special about the booze but the huge seated area right next to the river is special and its a favourite of mine on a sunny day.

Could not decide if this was a 4 star or 3 star, opted for the 3 due to the queuing at the bar and the staff being the slowest I have come across. Other than that the place is lovely, a great place to have a drink in the sun with friends, the backdrop of Bristol harbour is stunning and makes for a very relaxed evening. One of many great places to pass the time in Bristol

You always know when Spring has sprung because suddenly the expanse of benches outside this harbourside pub become packed with bums on seats and I am usually among them. The location is unrivalled with great views across to the Thekla and Riverstation and all along the harbour. It’s a big pink pub on the corner for those who have missed it and is situated just below the lovely row of coloured town houses which dominate the horizon here. I must confess to not actually liking the pub inside– its poky and old-mannish and needs updating and the food is uninspiring, but as a spot to down a few cold ales in a spectacular setting, it wins hands down.

This is a great pub to come for if you fancy a drink by the waterside. Its perfect in the summer, sitting in the sun with a pint and some cheap grub overlooking the water. Though it is full of character on the outside, inside it does feel rather like a wetherspoons and the food also has that Wetherspoons quality to it. It has the potential to be really cosy inside. Its a shame they haven’t made more if the inside as this could be a fantastic spot. As it is, its a great place to come for a cheap drink on a sunny day and enjoy the waterside.

Fantastic in the summer, loads of outside seating on the edge of the docks, seems to have a rather strange habit of forming a single line queue for the bar rather than the usual scrum! As if we don’t queue enough in our lives but still a great summer venue none the less

This is very much a summer time pub as it has a wonderful view of the harbour side and plenty of outdoor tables and chairs overlooking the water. I really wouldn’t recommend this place for anything else other than it’s location and the fact that you can sit next to the harbour on a summers evening though. The interior is fairly small and uninspiring. The food is your bog standard pub food, done with all the same care and attention you might find in a Weatherspoons. And the one time I was there during a rainy cold evening, there was an odd collection of yokels at the bar giving me funny looks. It is a wonderful old building with a lot of history, but the very fact that I and most other people are stating being outside of the pub itself as it’s major plus point, should let you know that this isn’t a great pub once you take the location away.

This place get’s itself a star just for the name. The location and atmosphere are responsible for the other three. There are surprisingly few pubs along the harbourside(The Cottage and Nova Scotia are both a twenty minute walk away from the city centre), unless you’re willing to brave the marauding hordes and poor quality that congregate along the strip opposite the Arnolfini, so the the Ostrich has certainly cornered the market in this respect. People flock here for a waterside drink, and a pint on a bearably warm day sat at one of the many benches they have outside is a lovely experience. Whilst going outside usually means the company of a gaggle of smokers, the view means that the crowds pulled out here, making it one of the best places in the city for an outdoor drink. The same can’t be said for the inside but that doesn’t really matter — the Ostrich can trade it’s open air virtues alone.

This is one of the most popular pubs in and around the city centre area due to its location. Sitting directly opposite the Thekla boat, this pub boasts a HUUUUUGE seated area out the front which looks across the water. A perfect place to go on a sunny day, though in truth the views are so good that this place is generally rammed at all times of the year. This is also possible because part of the outdoor area is covered, which means hardy souls can brave the elements even in winter and are rewarded with a buzzing atmosphere for their troubles. The same can’t be said about the single room interior unfortunately, and I generally only go in there for as long as it takes to buy a round. A bit of a missed opportunity considering the impressive location and history of the place.

Perfect for your Sunday Roast needs. Nice and cosy on a Winter’s evening and with plenty of outside seating for a relaxed summers mid-afternoon pint, the Ostrich is fit for every drinking occasion. It’s located in its own little spot just around the corner from the floating harbour and offers a great view of all the water sports in the right season! Prices are reasonable and I believe they even had acurry Wednesday going at one point?

A lovely looking pub on the dockside with dozens of tables outside for the summertime. It’s one the wrong side of the docks to get loads of passing trade, but this is a blessing as it’s never jam packed, and doesn’t attract the wrong crowd. As you enter the pub take a look to the right where there are bars blocking a small entrance to a cave. The food is good and you’d struggle to find a better value burger and chips for the money.

Old pub with a huge courtyard in front to sit and gaze across at bristol. The location is fabulous and very chilled. The drinks are ok although it is a bit grotty inside. During summer it is wonderful and can get very busy. It is right next to the harbour so makes for a nice view.

This is an old traditional looking pub by the Bristol Docks. They do pub grub which is fairly tasty. The best thing about this pub is all the tables they have outside along the river. Its a nice place to have a pint on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

Very old pub on the harbourside with lots of history. Serves food all day from a varied menu which includes steaks, curries, traditional english meals, sandwiches. Usually efficient at serving food. If there is a wait time on food they are considerate enough to tell you when you order. Its not huge inside and can get very busy especially on a weekend evening. It is also on the Bristol Booze Cruise stop so can suddenly become overwhelmingly busy from time to time. Now does a pub quiz on a Monday night. The Ostrich really comes into its own in the summer months as there are loads of outdoor tables along the dock side with views over the floating harbour. The ferry stop is also right next to the pub. A nice cheap afternoon of fun if you have kids is to do a ferry trip round Bristol followed by a drink at the Ostrich and watch the river traffic go by.(even better when the sun is out) Dont forget to have a peek at the inside of the pub where the wall has been knocked away to reveal part of the Redcliffe caves.
