It’s great to see independent jewellers still having a place on the British high street(and not just being a venue where you can ‘cash your gold’) though Tamrakar is not just good for necklaces and charm bracelets. This rather bohemian looking store is actually full of unique, individual silver jewellery, all made by the owner. The jewellery has a distinct Asian and African theme, with bold gems and swirls of silver. There are also other trinkets on offer such as handmade paper, cards and dressing table ornaments. This should definitely be on your radar if you’re shopping for a spiritual friend or hippy chick who still thinks boho chic is in. Also good to go if you have a friend who likes her accessories to be a one-off as there are no mass-produced pieces here.

Sandwiched between two chaotic second hand shops, it’s easy to miss Tamrakar. However, if you are a fan of authentic bohemian style jewellery you should definitely check this place out. Handmade and designed by the shop’s owner, Bijendra Tamrakar, you’ll find a wealth of silver and crystal jewellery, much of which is highly original. The shop also boasts a selection of gorgeous Tibetan incense and some Tibetan Buddha statues too. If you’re looking for a gift for your hippie friend, this place will be sure to help you out. As well as selling jewellery and nicknacks, you can also find an assortment of unique Nepalese clothes and bags here. What’s more, the owner is very welcoming and happy to assist with any queries you may have. All groovy, really.

On first inspection nothing but a hippie silver jewellery shop, but it is worth taking a closer look as it is all from a more authentic source. Owner Bijendra Tamrakar is the designer and she has an interesting eye for colour and shape. The shop also stocks fair trade clothing and paper from Nepal. Find the shop just round the corner from East Street /up from the swimming pool.

I WISH I WOULDNEVERHAVEPUT A FOOTINTHEREI was having lots of problems finding a wedding ring that would look different and I found one I liked immediately at Tamrakar but it was not my size. The owner assured me he made them and there would be no problem at all in altering the ring. This happened mothns before the wedding. I only bought it under the premise that it could be altered because, who needs a wedding ring that is too big and will fall off the finger? The owner then went off overseas and came back over a month later. We took the ring to be altered. They rang us to say we could collect the ring and assured it was done. I tried the ring and it was as loose as ever! the sales assistant, who was nice, could not understand it. Now I know it was never done in the first place. We left the ring again and never heard from them. I rang today, exact 3 weeks ahead of my wedding to ckeck what was going on with the ring and the sales assistant told me it was still in a drawer waiting to be done! I said this was going on for months and the wedding was getting closer and she said she will contact the repairer and ring me back. She did. The repairer said he could not do it. They said I could have a refund but this was the ring I had thought for moths to be my wedding ring and got attached to, I have now not enough time to start looking for another ring and this ring was not expensive, it was special, so the money back is not going to compensate the situation I am in now. I want that same ring back even if it is big and I never wear it rather than the money for it. This is a horrible experience I don’t wish anybody to have. Their service has been careless from the start. I feel utterly hurt and lost now because I don’t know what I am going to do. It might sound silly but it meant something to me
