To really appreciate this shop, you’ve got to go all the way inside and up into the little mezzanine level at the back, where all sorts of gorgeous earrings and brooches are for sale, as well as bags and other accessories. There’s loads of great stock in this shop, and it’s all got a great home-woven feel to it. Tops, skirts, hats, scarves; it’s all quite«hippy» in style, and extremely popular with female students who like to drip around Gloucester Road. I had a funny experience here. I wandered in and started browsing, and only then noticed that there was a film crew inside. I find out that they were filming a girl walking past the mannequins in the window, as part of a short scene in a music video. They had kept the shop open while they worked, which was all a bit awkward, because it was quite hard to slip out once I’d gone inside, without disturbing their shoot! So, I ended up browsing quietly in the shop for longer than I had anticipated. Lucky it’s such a nice shop! This is a great shop to come if the festival-style clothes are your style or if you’re looking for pretty, ethnic earrings or a slouchy bag. There are quite a few shops of this kind along Gloucester Road, and some make more of a splash than Sticky Neon does, but be sure not to miss it.

This isn’t quite my bag, me not being a street performer, but it’s worth a visit none the less. There are all kinds of circus must-haves from juggling balls to fire-eating tools. And they stock the kind of brightly-coloured jester garments that go with such a profession. But there’s also some really cool ethically sourced knitted wrist warmers and slippers, loads of incense and knitted bags. And it’s all really cheap and sold to you by two smiley women who seem to be enjoying themselves.

I love the clothes here. Lots of ‘hippy’ shops either sell stock sourced cheaply from asia with a massive mark-up or are frightfully dull and yoghurt-weavery. The clothing here is designed and handmade by 2 sisters and is a lot more inventive and creative than your normal hippy fare. Its quite reasonably priced too given that it is all handmade. Not bought anything from here.yet.however I have my eye on some of the cosy and trendy fleecy creations for sale.

This hippy haven has recently moved to Gloucester Road and I always wondered why it wasn’t there sooner. On a street where gypsy skirts, incense sticks and knitted items are second-nature, this shop fits in perfectly. Sticky Neon ticks all the right boxes too — handmade products? Tick. Ethical sourcing? Tick. Fair-trade? Tick. Perfect for gifts and goods for the home, Sticky Neon is reasonably priced and good quality. The clothes aren’t sticky and they aren’t neon-but a quirky name for a quirky shop.

The inside of Sticky Neon reminds me of long weekends at festivals and stalls at Camden market. The first thing you’ll notice is the warming smell of incense and candles burning away as you walk through the doors. The second is the chanting choons and hypnotic music coming from the radio. This shop has ‘unashamedly hippy’ written all over it. With incense sticks for £1, jewellery at £5 and knitted bags at cheap prices, it’s a lovely place to pick up an unusual gift or something from your home. All their items are ethically sourced and traded fairly which is also a plus. There’s also a surprising section at the back dedicated to tricks and treats — fire eating poles, hacky sacks, batons and juggling balls for those looking to take up a new skill!
