This friendly neighbourhood take-away is a firm fixture in the palate of most St Werburghians. It boasts a great range of reasonably priced Indian food with an easy to follow and descriptive menu. But this being the ‘burgh’s, each description is accompanied by information on its vegetarian, dairy-free or wheat-free status. There are the usual small snacks and starters but as well as bhajis, Simply Spiced offers lip-smacking puris– flatbreads with various fillings ranging from spiced prawns to chick peas and lentils. Their tandoori range is one of their greatest strengths but they also offer a fantastic tiffin refill deal. This is when you buy a tiffin, choose a rice, side and classic curry and then each time you fill up you are given discounts off those dishes. Breads range from the classic naans to chapatis, rotis and parathas while the choice of curries is extensive. Fillings include not just the usuals like chicken and lamb, but Quorn, white fish, tiger and king prawns. All food is without artificial colourings and preservatives and they also sell tobacco, beers, wine and champagne. Spiced is open 5.30−11pm Tuesday– Sunday with free delivery on orders over £10 and within a three-mile radius. Tel is 01179552419.
