Reg the Veg, Reginald the veginald, is a fantastic little fruit & veg shop in Clifton. In fact they used to supply all the lemons and limes to the pub I used to work in. Fact. The prices are much lower than in the supermarket and being in Clifton Village there isn’t really much of a ‘supermarket’ to shop in anyway. Anybody who has lived here will tell you how glad this independent fruit & veg shop is here. Perfect for grabbing some strawberries and sitting in Victoria Square on those lazy lunch breaks. Everything they sell is tasty, you can tell they’re experts, from the chillies to the melons, they also put their stock out in front of the shop, which creates this beautiful outside market stall effect with the large outside café next door. They sell pot plants and fresh locally made apple juice with your choice of rhubarb or ginger to name a couple of combinations.

An independent grocers spilling out onto the stretch of pedestrianised pavement which leads into Clifton Village, Reg the Veg is something of a local gem. The boxes filled with fresh produce invariably look inviting, with all manner of interesting fruit in all shapes and sizes on display. It’s enough to make you want to go veggie, and definitely a far cry from Sainsburys. It’s not the cheapest, obviously, but the price/quality ratio is pretty right on. They also do good value seasonal delivery boxes(see the website) which are worth looking in to.

If Carlsberg did… independent fruit and veg shops. Joking apart, if they did then they would be hard pushed to find an establishment of this calibre. Once you have been here you will NEVER go back to a supermarket, i dont, they’re rubbish. The owners are always nearby to recommend the best in season produce. The quality of this farmers shop in the middle of the city warrants far more people discovering it– no excuses!

I don’t think I’ve met anyone who would ever even consider putting down Reg The Veg! An independent greengrocers, I agree with Will P when he says that this fruit and veg shop really adds to the Clifton community. I remember when I was at school we used to order their stock for delivery weekly, which would suggest that they do deliver– Ask in store! The stock is of the finest quality and when I am in Bristol, I swear by them, as does my mother on a more frequent basis! The staff are friendly, and everything in there is presented so well. A colourful change to the strip lighting of the supermarket, and cheaper for better stuff, too!

I’ve never met Reg but I like his veg. Independent green grocers are as rare as hens teeth(writing that makes me sound old…) and those remaining should be treasured I reckon. Definitely take a detour from your trip to the supermarket for this place. Fresh, ripe, and neatly presented, the produce is excellent. The range is better than most supermarkets, with things like rhubarb and celariac making guest appearances. The staff are friendly, and give a real community to the place. I know its just veg we’re talking about, but this is refreshing after a visit to Tesco. Go here to support an independent and get some soul with your veg.
