I went here far more than I probably normally would just because it was a handy place to go to as was near to work. Its a good place to go to for lunch as they do hearty reasonably sized portions. I especially like their cheese chips but they also do a good salad in here. Pub salad’s can often be a woeful affair but this was very good with tasty mozzarella. It can be difficult to get a seat here if you are with a big group of people as I normally am. The staff are lovely and friendly here and you don’t have to wait ages for your food. Its not the most exciting place in the world but the the Portwall Tavern is extremely likeable.

Definitely up there with the better of Bristol’s pubs, The Portwall Tavern boasts a relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff and a good selection of well priced alcoholic beverages and soft drinks. If you’re looking for a pub with characterful surroundings which sells hearty pub grub and traditional ales, this venue is guaranteed to satisfy your needs. Small but cosy, with a rustic feel to it, Portwall Tavern is a great place to go for a low key night out with a few friends. Don’t expect a vibrant atmosphere(except, perhaps, when the footie is showing) or drunken revellers dancing on tables on a Friday night. But if a serene pub experience is what you’re after, you can count on Portwall Tavern.

Portwall is located right on the edge of the centre of Bristol. Some might say that it isn’t even classed as that so its probably a place for those living very locally. It’s your standard run of the mill pub that serves the usual booze and football on screen. Best avoided at times of a big Premiership derby as it will be full of rowdy footie fans(unless you like that type of company of course!). Would I go back? Probably not as it’s too far out to stop off for a quick drink, and its not worth the effort to get there. There are definitely better places to go in the nearby area.
