Going to keep this brief but if you are looking for amazing food with a nice dining experience then Pony & Trap is a great pick. The staff were really nice and welcoming, and the food was second to none. I have great confidence in the food and the flavours they produce its always nice to try something you wouldn’t normally see in a pub restaurant.

Another fantastic experience had at the Pony & Trap. I’ve been to the Pony & Trap a number of times. Once in a large group with friends and a number of times in a smaller group with family. Whether it’s a classic Sunday roast, a cheeky weekday lunch or evening dinner it never fails to impress, it hasn’t got a Michelin Star for nothing! This visit was for an early Sunday lunch with my wife and grandad as a birthday present for Grandpappy. I’d booked a while back and specifically asked for a table with good light as grandpappy’s eyesight isn’t quite what it use to be. The guys at the Pony & Trap were more than accommodating and gave us the best table in the house, in front of the large window at the back of the restaurant overlooking Chew Vally, it’s quite a view. I usually go for the beef for the P&T Sunday roast but based on the steak meal I’d eaten the night before I thought I’d branch out and try the pork for a change, I wasn’t disappointed! The pork came complete with crackling, homemade apple sauce, parsnip purée, AMAZING roasters and a selection of veg that’s without a doubt some of the best I’ve ever had accompanying the Sunday meat! My personal fav was the roast beetroot. The pork didn’t come with a Yorkshire but I had a quiet word with our waitress and she arranged for me to have one anyway. Smashing service as always. Alice and Grandpappy went for the beef and as expected the medium rare slab of prime ashdale beef was first class(I managed to pinch a taster from Alice!). It’s also worth mentioning the homemade horseradish that accompanied the beef. I sometimes find that you should stick to the stuff that comes out of a pot but this stuff was amazing. It tasted so fresh and a proper nose tingler! I can’t speak highly enough of the Pony & Trap. Considering the high quality of ingredients(a summary of which is included on the back of the menu, so you can see where they were sourced from), the first class service and it’s shiny Michelin Star it’s actually not quite as heavy on the wallet as you might expect. Highly recommended for a special occasion if you fancy venturing out of town. I can also recommend a walk round Chew Valley Lake or Folly Farm Nature Reserve after your meal to burn off your roast on a Sunday. Both are a couple of minutes drive from the pub.

This is possibly the best restaurant that we have ever dined in. Although it’s listed as a pub restaurant, I’d really classify it as a restaurant that also has pub facilities. The location is superb, with stunning views over the countryside at the rear. The welcome we received was warm and attentive, with pre dinner drinks offered inside or out in the garden. Menu’s for the night were printed as we enjoyed our drinks, so obviously, food is fresh and menu’s varied regularly. The selection of entrees, mains and desserts was superb, and the quality of each dish was faultless. The service was brilliant, attentive, but not in your face or overwhelming. The costs were in line with the whole experience, and quality and variety of the food. Brilliant value for money, and somewhere which should top your list for any special occasion, we just loved it, and will return when we are next in the UK. Thank you to the staff at the Pony and Trap for a great night.

The Pony in Trap is a hidden gem, on the outskirts of Bristol. It’s run by a brother and sister, and has a shiny Michelin star which is well deserved! I’ve been here a few times and really don’t know where to start, but the food has always been excellent. Highlights for me are probably the Roast beef which was practically half a cow, the meat was tender and juicy, it was served with a HUGE thyme Yorkshire pudding and all the extras. At £18 it might be a little more than your average pub but you certainly get your monies worth. Another highlight was the chocolate and peanut cheesecake… Deliciousness!!! The views from the pub are amazing, over looking chew valley it really is a treat for the eyes, I’d highly recommend sitting outside on a warm day to take in the view. The menu is always changing which keeps this fresh and interesting. They have a selection of great beers, spirits and wine. The staff are really friendly, helpful and know how to make you feel welcome. Great pub with modern gastro dining, I will continue to visit.

Stopped off for lunch on a Saturday on way from London via Stonehenge to Wales. 6 in party — my wife and I, in laws, 1 year old and 4 year old kids. Cosy gastropub. Very relaxed setting. Wonderful view of rolling hills. Food’s very good. The 1 Michelin star(found out later) is deserved. Starters and desserts are very good. There is certainly depth in the flavours and the combinations within most dishes worked well. My favourite is the toffee pudding. A quintessential British dessert done exceptionally well. My wife’s favourite was her carrot salad for starters. Would return if the opportunity arises.

I continue to be amazed by the pubs of England. As an American we are told timelessly that British food is bland and boring, and I find time and again that not to be the case. I definitely did not find that to be true at the Pony & Trap. Yes, the Michelin star is there for a reason so it must be good but I was very pleasantly surprised at how good it actually was. After a day of driving and a little hiking around Chew Valley we headed on over to this place with a 2pm reservation. Thankfully we actually made the res. after a couple friends told us to, because we apparently got the last table(as our not so friendly host made sure we knew). Really, there are only a handful of dining tables in the back so I’m sure it’s not hard to fill it up quickly but I wouldn’t think on a Tuesday it would be full. Anyway, point being, make a ressie. Besides the weird-o host/bar tender everything else was spot on with the service. We ordered a couple pints of Ashton Press and decided to forgo starters in lieu of desserts(it’s one or the other with us heifers). For my main I chose the sea bass in saffron broth with mussels and clams(FREAKINGAMAZING), the broth was perfect and I could have drank a cup full of it, the seafood was super fresh and delicious and the roasters served alongside were to die for. Can’t say enough about the dish and how good it was. My man got the rib eye and honestly it was one of the tastier steaks I have tasted, he loved it and the roasted mushrooms and tomatoes served with it were impeccably seasoned. Two of the better main courses we have had anywhere let alone a pub. For desserts we had a sticky toffee pudding(heaven) and a chocolate cake of sorts which was just fair. All in all a delicious meal in a beautiful little spot, good service and a cozy feel. Would definitely come back here, especially for the Sunday lunch(menu looks amazing!)

It’s a good half hour from Bristol but, like a lot of other Bristolians following the news of a Michelin star we ‘followed the star’ for a slap-up Friday lunch at this rural pub. Delicious food, not pretentious but expertly done. Stand-outs included the blue cheese panacotta & the miraculously un-greasy confit duck leg with a gorgeous green peppercorn sauce. And the cheeseboard was perfect. 2 people, 3 courses, 4 glasses of great wine + coffee: £66. Happy customers. And what a view.
