This one looks a touch seedy if you ask me. Certainly a million miles away from the student drinking dens that litter the Gloucester Road further down. This place is fairly quiet, feeling more like a pub than a bar with its collection of regulars. I didn’t feel to unwelcome when I did come here though. If they could pull in a bit of a crowd Planet Venues would be a much more attractive place to get a drink. They’ve recently done it up, and this has taken it off my actively avoid list. Things are bit newer and cleaner now, though if you’re looking for something smart this perhaps not the place to go. If you’re up this end of Gloucester Road and in dire need of a drink then maybe a pay Planet Venus a visit. I’m not sure if you would want to otherwise.

This is a bit of an odd place up on Gloucester Road. There’s always a group of locals in here, but they don’t look so welcoming. Overcome the evil looks and ignore the mid afternoon drunkenness and this bar could be quite nice — only it needs a bit of a rebranding in my opinion. They recently refurbished it and made a new decking area outside, updated the signage and generally made it look a bit better, but it still hasn’t managed to turn it the way it should. Expect your average bar stock — the standard range of beers and spirits, all at standard prices, around £3 a drink. There’s really not much to rave about in here — I reckon a few events to pack the place out would do them the world of good and give the atmosphere and general vibe of the place a bit of a lift.
