Recommended to me by my mate Cosmo who lives in Nailsea, Cant, say I was overly excited about the prospect and was completely UNDERwhelmed by my experience here. Everything is over-priced and the quality definately iffy. The décor is good is about allI can say about the place but it full of posers and wannabee cliftonites so its not eactly relaxing. I think the words Emperors new clothes spring to mind

If you like a sweet cocktail visit Papajis and order a Porn Star Martini — a passionfruit & vodka based cocktail with a prosecco chaser for a little over-the-top glamour! I’ve visited this bar in its various formations over the years and since the launch last November, following the refurbishment these guys have showed great service and style. The bar itself has a great décor and split over two floors offers separate areas for evening drinks or food. For those not aware there is also a spacious outdoor garden around the back, which is great for the summer months. This is a bar that has top be revisited at different times of the day, of the week and for different occasions. There is a brunch menu to set you up for the day ahead(eggs are always perfectly cooked!) which can be accompanied by the vast menu of teas or a coffee, as the day goes on, go back for afternoon tea, have a cocktail making session for that special occasion or throw on your glad rags and return in the evening for a classy night of cocktails and live DJ.

This was seriously mediocre, though i really, really wanted to like it. The tea was average to tasteless. If you want good tea, I can recommend the tea house in Cardiff suburbs or the tea place in Bradford-on-Avon. The scones were good and the service good. Garden very nice.

I loved the tea on offer and the lush furnishing at this place. Even though it’s located on busy Whiteladies Road, you feel like you’re tucked away nicely. The service was a little strange, though. After the server took our order, he proceeded to have an argument with someone on his mobile on what he would be having for dinner. Then one of friends turned up with his bike and they stood in the middle of the tea room chatting quite loudly for awhile. Then his mobile rang again and he kept arguing about his dinner — he kept saying ‘No, I’ll pick up some chicken on the way home. I’ll PICKUPSOMECHICKENONTHEWAYHOME’ I loved the tea(it was seriously delicious) and the setting, but after the stage show I’m not going to rush back, if I’m honest.

I visited Papaji’s over the lovely long Easter bank holiday, it was around ¾ o’clock so I wasn’t really hungry enough for a whole meal — they’re fancy bar snacks were just what I wanted! the chicken strips in breadcumbs were pretty good as were the selection of sausages(though not really a selection). There were quite a few options and perfect for sharing if you fancy a bit if everything. The real selling point of this place, is of course, the teas! Behind the bar there’s a huge wooden vault type thing with tens of little drawers full of boxes of fancy teas. The teas themselves are wide ranging from your bog standard breakfast tea to fruity concoctions. Have you ever tried a alcoholic tea cocktail? I can’t recommend it highly enough, I had a Cosmo mixed with a red berry tea while my friend took the long island option which was a lot more tea-like! If you fancy trying something a little different it’s totally worth dropping by, with a full bar and comfy sofas I reckon it gets quite busy of an evening too.

‘Papa Ji’s house of teas’ to give it it’s full name, used to be Tequila Max until it was recently purchased and refurbished by husband wife team Stef and Andy Dodd. You won’t recognise this as tequila max any more. Stef and Andy have really gone all out and the décor is contemporary, minimal and very high quality, they even have a garden out the back. This really is a wonderful place to relax, dine and party in. Papa Ji’s offers soemthing very different, on top of being a café /restaurant as well as a superb cocktail bar(the owner Andy used to manage the park bar on the triangle when it used to be amazing) it has over 30 different teas to try. These aren’t your typical earl greys or even strawberry and mango infusions but a selection of green, black and white teas all the way from darjeeling. The food is excellent, drink quality and selection is second to none and the service is impeccable. To sum this place up it’s got everything, you could bring the family here for breakfast lunch and dinner. Have a family or work function, or a late night of cocktails. Expect Papa Ji’s to be the place to be seen when it gets dark as one of, if not the finest bar in Bristol.

What a fantastic idea! Like a wine bar, but suitable for those tea totallers out there, or people who just like tea, then this place is brilliant. With a range of world teas from the delicate to the more substantial, they have anything you could possibly desire. The food is brilliant too, I went for Papa’s signature Hamburger, which was delicious, but I will be definitely be going back to sample the delights of the Confit of Duck and again for the Ceylon tea steamed cod fillet. Amazing, definitely one of the restaurant along that strip.

TEA! If you’re as much of an addict to the awesome drink that is Tea, you cannot fail to simply love Papajis. It’s a restaurant based around tea — order anything from their menu, and they will give you a specially selected cup of tea to match the item you ordered. A simply fantastic idea, if you ask me. It sounds a bit too good to be true, and a lot to live up to, which is the premise that I went with on my first go. In reality, it absolutely lives up to a preceded reputation — the food was fabulous — I had tea smoked chicken breast(not all the menu is tea themed, rest assured), and a vanilla rice pudding with plum compote. The serving of tea for each course is not a gimmick — it’s a welcome addition to the meal that actually works very well. The prices are reasonable — we paid around £15 per person for two courses, and the staff were really welcoming and friendly. A highly recommended restaurant!
