Stapleton Rd(and indeed Easton) is a very multi cultural and diverse part of Bristol with a plethora of shops and markets, restaurants and stalls serving and supplying a whole host of different people and cultures. The Masala Bazaar is the newest(and thus the most shiny and polished) addition boasting a world of tastes inside. The supply appears to be mostly Bangladeshi based with vegetables like okra, mula and begun on offer. This is also a great place to pick up packets of spices and herbs although, like with all the other food stuffs, they do tend to come in more bulky /wholesale sizes. At the back of the store there’s a good selection of cooking utensils, woks, pots and pans. I was told this is a good place to get fish but I could only find frozen fish — although admittedly nice sizes and really good quality. There is however a good choice of fresh halal meat and poultry.

This shop built on the site of the old Hire Rite place, has only just opened and consequently feels all bright, shiny and new. It’s a huge site and you feel that they haven’t quite got all their stock in yet. However, what they do have is a large selection of Indian spices and groceries, veggies, pulses, rice, flour, oils, tinned and jarred produce, soft drinks and many catering size products. There are some English veggies and groceries as well as a stock of cooking utensils. They have a large frozen fish department, mostly Indian & Bangladeshi varieties and have a Halal butchers department complete with staring sheepsheads!
