Kingsdown barbers is located in Cotham, about a 15 minute walk from the top of Park street. It is the only hairdressers in the area so is very handy for locals as you don’t have to trek all the way into town. From the outside, Kingsdown Barbers looks really small, but it does go back quite a bit inside so don’t be put off. The décor is really modern and clean, and I really like the red walls. The name ‘Barbers’ innitailly put me off as I assumed they only catered for men but this is not the case. In fact when I visited, there were far more females than males in there! The hairdressers are friendly and chatty but do not bombard you will questions which is nice! At only £17 for a cut and finish, it really is a bargin. I haven’t however experienced what they are like with perming or colouring so I am reluctant to rate it too highly. They also don’t take card payment so bare this in mind when visiting as there are no free ATMs locally. In general though I would recommened going here for your hair dressing needs.

I am not a difficult prospect when it comes to haircuts. Just get out the clippers, put them on ‘number two’ mode and trim away. So saying that Kingsdown Barbers managed to get this right isn’t really paying them too much of a compliment. With that said, everything else I saw of the barber(e.g. the haircuts they were giving everyone else) suggested that they would have been able to deal with a more difficult assignment. The salon is clean and pretty sleek. There wasn’t much of a wait when I went along and the staff were chatty without any air headed ‘So you going somewhere hot this year?’ you usually get. The prices are pretty good, especially considering the pricy surroundings. It annoys me that far too many barber shops seem to add loads of bells and whistle in order to justfy putting a couple more quid on the bill and thankfully this isn’t the case here — you just get a decent hair cut but for a fair price.

This is my ‘local’, when it comes to hairdressers in Bristol and having just moved into my new flat with limited funds after a hefty deposit I was looking for a cheap and cheerful haircut. I’d done the rounds on Gloucester road, but couldn’t find anything under £30 for a woman’s cut and finish, so was more than impressed when I walked into the trendy-looking studio and was quoted £17. Despite it being a Saturday afternoon, a stylist was free immediately and was pleasantly chatty as she gave my messy mop a well needed tidy up. On realising I didn’t have the cash on me, she informed me that the salon didn’t accept cards, so I was obliged to dash to the corner shop damp and frizzy and pay the £1.50 extra for cash withdrawal. On the whole, I was satisfied for my cheap cut and finish, but am still yet to find a stylist who can really style curly hair rather than leaving it looking like candy floss. The salon welcomes all ages, both men and women, doesn’t break the bank and is modestly modern.
