This business closed down in May, 2012. There are rumours that it’s going to be turned into a small supermarket, but who knows?

For the past 2 nights I have stayed in the B&B part of this pub. The twin room was clean and average, but the(CRT) TV had an annoying whistle which gave me a headache. When I returned on the first night, nobody had been in during the day to clean the room and make the bed, I still had a dirty tea cup on the side from the night before. The place was let down even more by its ‘continental’ breakfast. There was nothing continental about it, the first morning it consisted of a few packets of cereal and half a loaf of sliced bread, the second day the bread had gone as had all the clean bowls and spoons. I had to wash a bowl and use a teaspoon to eat the cereal. Nobody from the pub was up and about when I had breakfast(07:00), the barmaid had told me that she would be in the pub by about 07:45, but only because they had an order coming in. For the price(£45 per night) I found the whole place totally inadequate and I shall not be staying there again.

This is a smashing little pub. It’s located at the bottom of Filton Avenue, towards Sainsburys, so quite out of the way. The buses into town or towards Cribbs Causeway or UWE are irregular at best and only run approximately hourly anyway, so be prepared for a walk, but it’s not so bad, mostly flat. The pub itself has recently been renovated and is spacious and modern-looking inside, with a large beer garden to the rear. Drinks are averagely priced, and a variety of bar snacks are available as well as some proper pub meals — steak in ale pie, lasagne, fish and chips, burgers and salads, etc — the usual pub meals. On Thursday nights there’s an entertaining quiz, with interesting rounds. The last time I was there during the quiz, my team managed to get 5 out of a maximum of 5 in the ‘ships’ round, which was a bit of a surprise. On some Fridays and Saturdays there is a turn on. The turn is usually of a high calibre and the pub attracts a decent turn-out for this. They used to have a pool rom but for some reason the pool table has disappeared and now there’s just an empty room. There’s a variety of fruit machines and other machines of that type, for the customers’ enjoyment.
