One thing I love more than going out for Asian food, is experimenting and cooking my own! That’s why I love Dano! There are bigger Asian supermarkets in Bristol, but none that make me as excited as Dano. I used to go in to buy the instant noodles and some sauces. But after chatting the guy that runs the place, I buy dumplings, spices, curry paste, sushi ingredients and equipment and lots of other Asian delights. The guy is so helpful, he’ll go out of his way to show you where stuff is or read the packaging to tell you what’s what. I’d recommend going in there without a specific dish in mind, chat to the guy and see what you come out with. I almost guarantee you’ll leave excited and with stuff you’ve never cooked before. That’s what it’s all about for me!

Dano is the true meaning of an oriental/asian food market. The dude who works in there is so friendly, he’s Korean and say a few phrases to him and he goes crazy! Will talk to you for ages about Asia and travelling. The store is kinda small but boy, does it pack a punch! So much produce in there selling the BEST sticky rice, kimchi, seaweed & sempio sauce which i have not seen anywhere else. Plus they sell little rice bowls, fans, charms and more. 100% authentic. Prices are really reasonable and if you’ve not been to Asia but want to tickle your tastebuds, the dude will be really helpful and suggest a meal you can put together to try. located at the bottom of Gloucs road right by the arches, all major buses go via Dano. 10⁄10!

Mr. Kim is my homie! That dude is so nice and helpful. Whenever I come in, he greets me with a handshake and a smile. Any time I don’t know where something is, I’ll describe it and he’ll show me exactly where to find it. One time, I even missed my bus and he drove me home. I’m half-Japanese/half-Chinese and I gotta say, everything in this shop is legit. Needless to say, I haven’t and won’t be taking my money elsewhere.

Dano is an Asian supermarket, which has quite a good selection of Korean, Japanese and Chinese foods, which is better than any of the Chinese supermarkets in the city centre. They have authentic stuff here, maybe abit pricey but worth it because they are good in quality and choice. They really are in direct competition with an Asian supermarket further up the road called the Oriental Market, and on certain points, they win and on others they lose. The Udon noodles and tofu here are much more expensive, and they have less stock in their fresh food selection compared to the Oriental Market. But, they are better stocked in drinks and Korean stuff(fresh Kimchi, anyone?) They are very friendly here, and in fact when I left the shop, the guy working in here ran after me down the street and gave me a leaflet, explaining to me that they provide a delivery service, which is free for orders above £20. A good thumbs up, but sadly I’ll have to cycle abit further up for my Udon noodles.

Goodness, this is a lovely little shop, crammed with delicious Asian foods, drinks, snacks and cooking ingredients, and run by a delightfully smiling man. I had a nice little browse in here, today, and marvelled at the number of different sweet chilli sauces, massive bags of rice, tins of all sorts of coconut-based sauces, crispy nibbly things … Everything looked so delicious, and I know I’ll come back here to stock up another time when I’m in a position to carry/drive lots of things home! On this occasion I just bought a chilled bottle of Aloe Vera juice for £1.20, which I always look out for in supermarkets and can never find. Dano sits in a stretch of specialist food shops and is, in my view, the best presented and friendliest of the bunch. These shops can of course naturally feel a bit exclusive, but this one was good for browsing and seemed set up just as much to entice more people in who perhaps would only buy bits and bobs(like me) and to cater for those experts who would shop here regularly.

I have spent a lot of time looking for fresh Korean, Japanese and Chinese ingredients in Bristol and have mostly failed. Of course there are the usual candidates in Easton and over Bristol Bridge, however they do not get anywhere near Dano(i.e. not fresh enough). I am pleased to say that I have finally found a shop which sells consistently fresh vegetables and produce, they also advise on how to prepare and cook it as well. Dano is a very interesting small family run shop and differs from a lot of Asian Marts in Bristol as they are very friendly and are happy to help if you can’t find what you are looking for. Shop speciality: Korean Kimchi freshly made, you won’t find it anywhere else in Bristol this fresh(or gorgeous). Very highly recommended and they deserve to do well.

Although this is one of many Asian food shops near Gloucester Road, it seems to have the more unusual stock. My flatmates enjoy cooking from scratch whenever possible, so to cook up to their standards I often come here to make my meals a little more authentic. My favourite is the chilli satay sauce which is great value at £2.50 for a decent size jar. The language barrier here can prove quite difficult. I asked for Japanese Crackers and the owner kept pointing me towards the wrong thing– fortune cookies and rice cakes. The owners are lovely, but I would not come here for advice or a sure answer to any questions you may have. Nevertheless, Dano is great for browsing or trying new things.

Dano is a petit version of those big asian supermarkets you see around(like the large one right beside Temple Meads station — well, pretty much underneath the track going in anyway!) YOu can get your curry powders if you want to try a hand at mixing something up yourself rather than trusting Uncle Ben to do everything for you! I buy my Madras and Tikka powder from here, as well as a variety of spices to make my curry’s have a more individual taste.

Dano is a small Asian supermarket which stocks a large variety of authentic oriental foods. The shop is a little on the pricey side, but that is to be expected. To be honest, most of the things in there I have never heard of and have no idea what they do. I mainly visit because they do really good noodles for stir fries, and also a really selection of Chinese sauces which aren’t available in regular supermarkets. Staff don’t tend to interact with you unless you go up to them and ask, in which case they are really helpful in pointing you in the right direction.
