Bristol creativity and talent at its very best. The«pop-up» restaurant by Café Mulino at the Wildgoose Space in St Werberghs goes to show how brilliant and successful independent businesses can be in this City. You don’t need huge investment, shiny equiptment and fancy décor — all you need is passion and to be blessed with culinary genius. A simple concept: 1) hire a space in a community centre on a fri/sat evening 2) set-up your portable restaurant using garden furniture, bright table cloths and tealight candles 3) create an inspirational and delicious menu of «small plates» 4) advertise via facebook 5) run restaurant(with just two talented chefs, and three lovely waitresses) 5) let those diners come, become bewitched by the incredible innovative cooking, and sit back as they tell everyone they know about it. After hearing such positive reviews from several friends, I was so excited to try it for myself. We booked a table for 5 for a Friday evening session — £20pp, BYO The menu was incredible. Dish after dish of fresh, vibrant, clean, elegant and utterly delicious food. Cleverly thought out so that each plate is more complex than the last, as the dinner goes from fresh and aromatic to rich and intense. The experience grows as your tastebuds awaken and your appetite is teased out of you. By the time the final savoury course arrives you wolfshly dive in, unaware of your surroundings, and then stay in that state of bewildering nirvana until you realise that it is all over and you have an empty desset plate infont of you. And a massive smile on your face. The menu changes every event, but here is what we had; Spanish Anti-Pasti — manghego, jamon, olives Goats curd, burnt vegetables + coriander Shaved radish, celeriac + pecorino, with pomegranate + truffle oil Salmon, tzatziki, harrissa + dill Shellfish cooked in sherry + garlic butter Sour dough dumplings with rabbit ragu + oregano Ox cheek arancini Rhubarb pavlova with chantilly cream + mint The atmosphere was great, warm, full tables. Cleverly decorated with some colourful tablecloths, candles and flowers — you forget you are in a community centre. It always gives me a sense of pride to live in this city, whe you see just how excited and supportive our community is of ventures such as these. I will definatley be going back for more. Without doubt! If you want to give it a go(and I hightly reccomend that you do), look here:
