If I were John Betcheman I’m sure I could write a fantastic Ode to laundry in honour of the many bored hours I’ve spent in this place. But as I now have my own washing machine and love not having to leave the house to wash my clothes, I won’t. What I will say for it though is that it’s all very clean, cheap and functional. The machines all work there’s a little, all be it not very comfortable, bench to sit on and read and they have even acquired the works of a Paul Sample-Esque local artist depicting intricate scenes of local places that can hold one’s attention for some time. This laundrette is also staffed which can make life easier if you’ve made the blunder of turning up without change. But don’t expect much in the way of service or polite conversation as the staff are understandably bored and fed up looking, probably a side effect of the fact that they seem to have none stop Jeremy Kyle on in there all day.
