The cube is more hit and miss than my girlfriends cooking! However, I have had some cracking nights here with the higlight also being the lowlight for me. In my 1st year we had loads of great friends in their final year and on their very last night we went here to all be together and after party at ours and gave them the best send off but there were tears.(from them) Certain nights can be great but the best ones are the ones that big groups of people organise and get their own DJ’s to raise money or just for fun. The drinks are so cheap and the hall is practically free to hire so you can make a bit of money from charging entrance fees although don’t set them too high.

Ahh… The Cube… With cheap drinks and the proximity to campus accommodation, you’d think they’d be on to a winner here… But it just doesn’t work… I came here on three occasions in my first year, getting dragged along by three different groups, and limping home on three different occasions horrendously drunk… Normally, its the fun atmosphere of a venue that encourages social drinking, but here it was for pure escapism. A lot of the university«vibe» that means you can just chat away to anyone and everyone you bump into is gone here, lost to the mediocre attempt at a club. The music struck me as unappealing, and it just felt plain wrong to dance in the back room of Falmer bar… something just doesn’t click here for me. I’m sure some people have had and could have a great night here, especially when your just settling into campus life or not wanting to go for a massive night out… But personally, I’d rather have a casual night in Falmer Bar /East Slope or head on down to Brighton town to sample the vast array of awesome clubs they have there. If you are going to go, check what days its open that week, as they’re rarely the same!

The Cube is Sussex University’s student union club, and offers the great crowd and cheap prices you’d expect. Unfortunately, it’s never really taken off, even after it’s revamp last year(when its name was changed from ‘The Hot House’). Surprisingly few events are held here considering the size of the university, and club nights are usually only two nights a week. Do keep a eye open for events though, as sometimes there are gigs, the drama society holds a play there, the choir society will have a karaōke night, or the RAG society will hold a speed dating night! — It’s just a shame it’s not buzzing all the time. On the plus, if you’re a student it’s dirt cheap, you’ll know everyone(not always a good thing!) and there’s no taxi fare if you’re living on campus.
