Seven Stars

A clever modern adventurous menu! Really big portions and alluring presentation!
Particularly love the Mac and cheese balls! So original and it was easy to share several dishes with their sharing platter.

I have been here a couple times since the refurb. It’s kitted out like most of the microbreweries that seem to be popping up everywhere these days. It’s comfortable with cool music. The staff are friendly and it has an interesting smokehouse menu. I love craft beer so this pub is right up my street. My favourite beer is the Camden Wit, it’s a lovely smooth pale ale with loads flavour. I would defiantly recommend this place for a cheeky mid week pint or a boozey weekend session.

We ate the seven stars over the weekend and were very impressed with the food. I had the crispy pork belly sandwich which was amazing plus the squid side which was nice. The portions are defiantly filling so you won’t go hungry. It was nice to see BBQ food that wasn’t just normal food smothered with BBQ sauce. The drinks range is very good if slightly over priced side. Service is decent enough but nothing special. See worth popping in to for he food if nothing else.

We stopped in here for lunch last week and the food was pretty good. My partner and I both ordered from the Hangover menu. I had Mac and cheese and a portion of deep fried gherkins. My partner had a portion of wings and coleslaw and a side of fries. Both of our meals hit the spot. The earl grey gintini was also very nice. Staff were friendly and the atmosphere was quite nice. Overall it was a nice meal, but nothing really stood out.

Just got back from Unilocal newbie night held here (great to meet everyone by the way) and it’s a pretty cool venue! Obviously sticking to a similar format as the hare and hounds, this place is the latest trendy boozer to hit town. It’s a massive improvement on previous incarnations, particular fan of the wall paintings. One downside, it’s like a sauna!!! Wtf?! I do not want to sweat whilst having a drinky poo! It was wet and grim outside. Dread to think how hot it is when hot out.
On to the food, we had I think a taste of all of the bites on the menu and over all I really enjoyed them. In fact I liked them all. The only one I was a bit let down by was the deep fried pig meat or something which I found a bit dry (which is something I have always found with smokehouses meats which is a shame). Luckily the two sauces (BBQ and a slightly spicy one) we really good. The spicier one in particular. Really good. This wasn’t the cause of my sweating!

I’ve been here a few times and have never had a bad experience. Great wine, amazing cocktails — try the gintini — and the staff are brilliant.
Like I said — fantastic bar staff, good music and great décor. ¹⁰⁄₁₀ would come again.
Having moved from Leeds, I feel this is the kind of bar I could see myself being a regular at. This is the bar Brighton has been missing.

They’ve recently renovated and we came here for the launch night. Just wow! The place looks great. Awesome drinks selection and lovely staff! Yes, I’ll be coming back!

In all my years in Brighton I had only ever been to Seven Stars once, on Christmas day a few years ago as it was one of the few pubs that were open. It was okay, but nothing really to write home about.
Fast forward 3 or 4 years, I have since found myself in Seven Stars a few times, it has recently had a makeover. I was persuaded to go in with a few friends after going on a Brighton Ghost Walk.
The Décor is much improved, nice mood lighting with candles, and a really impressive bar.
The staff were young and friendly, and the pub is laid out so that it’s just as nice to sit and have a quite drink with a friend or with a big group.
I haven’t tasted any of the food on the menu as of yet but I will be sure to check it out. The ambience was nice and it wasn’t too noisy at all, I think it’s a great place to go for pre drinks before a night out, as it’s not too loud and therefore it’s great if you want to go somewhere for a drink and good old natter and catch up.

We had a very nice and quiet meal. I had a mushroom hamburger and I have to say that it was very good tasting. The service was very nice and friendly. Good place fair price.

Loved it in here. One of the nicest pubs we visited in Brighton last week. Chilled out atmosphere, nice quite music. We didnt eat in here but the food looked great!

Most of the previous reviews have been good about The Seven Stars, and I have to agree. I like it in here, just for a drink but the food does look good. I like choosing an Italian from the many in the immediate vicinty. It is a good boozer, and not too far from the bus stop to get me home!

Reasonable food and good beers, not the best pub in the world but a nice safe haven from shopping in the lanes!

As part of the Young’s brewery, this relatively new pub has been surprisingly unsuccessful. I like tihs pub however, although perhaps the lack of quirk means that it fails to appeal to Brighton patrons.
The inside is decorated in a darkly varnished wooden, rich in colour and setting. It is an extremely large pub, able to seat far more than the typical South Laines watering hole.
You can also get an upmarket modern British meal here, served with a range of Young’s beer and ales. This is a more formal and upmarket establishment, certainly one for the discerning customer.

I’ve often felt that if you’re doing some serious drinking in town, especially where the streets are crammed with shoppers, only a dark, preferably cavernous boozer will do. Step forward The Seven Stars. Located in the lanes opposite Piccolo, it’s a Youngs joint with a very pleasing interior design — a real nod to the trad public houses of yore– and a relaxed feel. I’ve noticed it get livelier as the days rolls on though…
Top marks to the wag who noted on a chalkboard in the window that ‘Cider is one of your five a day’!!! Tell THAT to the revenue, Landlord.

I’m giving Seven Stars 3 stars. It’s lively, and definitely a nice place to have a pint with some friends. Sometimes, when having a chat with a group of friends, I like to be in an environment that isn’t too quiet because if it’s too quiet, then I get the feeling that our conversation is being overheard by some strangers a few tables down. And if it’s too loud, then there’s the difficulty of being unable to hear any of the words that are being said. I found Seven Stars to be the perfect balance.
Given that no one in our party had anything to eat, I can’t comment on the food they have available. I can only comment on the drinks (the several I had were good). All in all, the night out was pleasant, drinks were had, and Seven Stars provided a comfortable atmosphere.

Seven Stars, as gastropubs in Brighton go, is nothing special. The food is good (certainly better than when it was an Irish pub!), it’s not too pricey, drinks are plentiful… There are just so many more exciting and interesting places in the area. With no ‘spark’, no enthusiastic reason to visit, beyond it looking a little like a Wetherspoons, Seven Stars is missing something, and as such I go to very rarely.
The area where Seven Stars is, inbetween the Lanes and Churchill Square, is already full of great watering holes: The Fiddler’s Elbow, the green one which I can’t remember the name of (opposite Fabrica), the Hop Poles, to name but a few. All of those pubs have something that draws you to them, from the Hope Poles amazing food and covered smoking area to the Fiddler’s Elbow’s noisy, friendly atmosphere, and Seven Stars goes a bit wanting in this regard. There’s nothing wrong with the place, I just have no reason to go there!
This annoys me so much because many elements of what Seven Stars offers are exactly up my alley: busy, but not crowded, inexpensive, not cheap, wholesome, tasty food… It just doesn’t have anything beyond that. In an area so busy with amazing places for a night out, I need something more from this place.
However, that little spark doesn’t deride the overall value of a well-​run pub. All of the above applies: it is everything a good pub should be. With something to help it stand out, I might come here more often; as it is, it’s a perfectly nice place for a drink, just don’t be surprised if you leave after a couple.

Seven Stars pub has a lovely, homey atmosphere, including a fireplace and a wii set up to a large screen television. Some friends were trying out wii golf whilst my friend and I stopped in for lunch. They weren’t very skilled, but it still felt like we were getting a bit of entertainment with our meal.
The dinner menu looks quite impressive, but it was only lunch time, and so we each ordered the roasted veggie and goat cheese wraps, deciding to save the butternut squash with lamb or cheese ravioli meals for another time. The wraps came with either chips or crisps, and were both delicious and filling. I’m sure there was more cream cheese than goat cheese inside, and they were a bit messily put together, but the taste was delish. Most lunch items were less than £5, and the dinners were just a few pounds more.
There’s a deal on at the moment where two meals and a bottle of wine is only £20. That sounds delightful, and is possibly why the pub always looks so busy around dinner time.

Much improved from the days when it was an O’Neills, the Seven Stars is a bit of a mix between modern and traditional.
It’s a large place, stretching a long way back from the street, but split enough into different seating areas that it doesn’t feel like a huge warehouse like space. There is some interesting décor, I kind of modern take on trad pub with patterened wallpapers, dark woods and floor tiles, which just stays the right side of tacky.
The food is really the big draw. It’s a good cross between pub favourites (such as jacket potatoes) and more upmarket dishes such as lamb shank. I had a steak sandwich which was lovely — nice rich meat and quality bread.

The Seven Stars is a pub in the Lanes. I haven’t come here much just the occasional weekend lunchtime — but it’s a pleasant enough place.
Around 20 years ago it was the Old Vic, a live music venue with a raucous edge. Then in the early 1990s it became H. J. O’Neill’s, one of the first Irish theme pubs around, complete with fake signposts, fake Guinness advertising and staff with fake Dublin accents. Then it became the Helsinki bar which I never visited. Now it’s a quiet Young’s pub with an air of calm.
They sell a couple of Young’s bitters and a couple of others (Bombardier and Deuchars?). They do a variety of other wines and spirits etc. I’ve never tried the food but a fair number of people seem to come here for the food so I suppose it’s OK.
It’s attractively decorated. The seating is comfortable. The piped music is quiet and unobtrusive. The toilets are pretty good. There’s free wifi. There is a TV but only for major sports events like rugby internationals.
