I can’t believe I have never visited this bakery before after living in the area for years. This bakery serve tasty bread and delicious treats. And the prices are quite cheap! You can’t help but stop in during the morning as the aroma from the shop draws you towards it. Will definitely come back for some tasty treats for tea!

Ravens, Ravens, RAVENS! You little gem you… Another very old school haunt of mine. Damn it’s good. Absolutely THE best bakery around. So cheap! So scrummy! This has been a family run bakery for years and boy can they bake! Top notch. I love it when you catch the freshly baked breads and they’re still warm from the oven, the place smells divine. The bread has a lovely crunchy crust and is fluffy, light and doughy on the inside. Perfect. The cakes! Well. Where do I start? They are all amazing! I used to go in here and basically buy an item of everything in the shop for about £10! Fab. I LOVE — The chocolate bomb doughnuts(basically like a jam one, but choc with melted, gooey choc inside). The almond slice. The Chelsea bun. The iced fingers. The chocolate chip giant cookies. The chocolate brownies. ETC! They also do a selection of filled rolls and mini bread rolls for lunch and what not. This place is the B*****KS.

Quite possibly THEBEST bakery in Brighton… or certainly that I have had the pleasure to find. Its always busy with locals queueing up outside to get their hands on some of these delicious baked goods. The bread is fantastic, ranging from good old cottage loafs to granary to wholemeal with sunflower seeds(a particular fave of mine) all freshly baked and additive free. Then you have top-notch croissants(for that special breakfast treat) and hot cross buns. Then, if you are feeling particularly naughtly, they also do a great selection of buns, cakes and cookies — I can certainly vouch for the treacle tart(drool). They also do filled rolls if you are after a quick take-away lunch. Add to this, the fact that they are a family-run local institution and it becomes a real pleasure to shop here. But, like Louise E says, don’t tell anyone!!!

Sssshh — whisper it. Ravens is really, really good. The reason I’m talking quietly is that this lovely little bakery at Fiveways is busy enough as it is, without the world and his wife finding out about it… So we’ll keep this between you and me, okay? Selling everything from fresh sandwiches, bread and savouries to the most delicious pastries, Ravens is a Fiveways institution. The queues are literally out the door at lunchtime, with kids from the local schools and workers from nearby offices prepared to wait minutes to get their lunch, so good is the fare. With excellent prices, and a very good range, Ravens is well worth the trip up Ditchling Road. Just don’t tell anyone I told you…

Another local bakery in Brighton that I am very surprised was not on here before. Whilst, I was working in the Fiveways area I stumbled across this tidy little bakery and became quite attached getting most of my lunches from here. They always have the same staff in who get used to your orders which sometimes makes you feel like a stuck in the mud for always getting the same. However, it does show their attention to detail. The sandwich and bap selection needs some work but they have plenty to offer in terms of cakes and savouries although I am not a big fan of the sausage rolls. The 26 and 46 buses stop right outside.
