The Prestonville Arms is a superb example of a Brighton Pub that has maintained a level of authenticity over the years. Comparing with the review from back in 2007, precious little has changed. Like its sister pub, the highly rated Basketmakers in the centre of town, it serves well looked after ales, and a solid food menu every day of the week. We went there for a roast today, and it did not disappoint. Lots of delicious lamb slices, paired with perfectly steamed veg. Gravy and Yorkshire pud were top notch.

This is ‘off the beaten track’ pub action at its best. Literally 10 minutes away from the station hidden away in the seven dials area, this pub really is a cozy, relaxing place to go. They pride themselves on not having TVs or fruit machines pinging away in the background which very few pubs do these days. We went there as quite a big group for Sunday lunch, all of us pretty much expected to be waiting ages for the food to arrive as they were quite busy but were surprised when it all arrived pretty much together quite quickly. Damn fine it was too! They have a really great patio area for some good summer drinking but usually have the fire going in the winter which really adds to the atmosphere.

The Prestonville is one of my top three pubs in Brighton. It’s a good street-corner local hidden away between the Seven Dials and Preston Park areas of Brighton. The inside is arranged around a central v-shaped bar, which features rotating exhibitions by local artists(which you can purchase). Old adverts, posters and pictures of Brighton and Hove adorn the walls elsewhere. It has a small, secluded outdoor patio for use in the summer until 22h, now frequented by smokers. A small outdoor smoking area is provided for use after this time. The pub hosts a music quiz on Tuesday and a fiendishly difficult general knowledge quiz on Sunday. Live music is featured on some Saturdays. The pub also usually features as an art gallery venue during the Brighton Festival. The Prestonville is run by Gales and features in the ‘Good Beer Guide’. At least four Gale’s beers are usually on offer, plus guest beers, together with a reasonable choice of pub food(on those lunchtimes they are open and in the evenings — but no food Sunday after 16h). With a loyal and local clientele, it is well worth looking out.

Whenever I have eaten here and admittedly its only been a veggie chilli or burger the food has been great and large portions. its good value hearty pub food. The selection of beers is always good and interesting. The bar staff don’t bend over backwards but they get on with it and are knowledgeable about the beers if asked. There used to be some dogs but they seem to have gone. I used to get a flea bite here. The garden has a heated rail good for smokers. its intimate and quiet out there. Only small gripe the furniture could be a tad more comfortable but its a good old fashioned styled pub. and there are not many left of these grab it while you can. They also have some good music nights and keep the beer well. Thank the Lord you can have a conversation in here. no loud music unless its a band night infact the music is very low key perhaps there is not any. thank goodness. No tv either even better!!!
