How could I not give Oceana 5 stars? It’s the club everyone loathes, but ends up going to anyway, and then rants about how awful it was the whole next day(yet we all had so much fun). Every city has a place like this, and Oceana is it for Brighton. Go, if for no other reason than to laugh at yourself and all the ridiculous people who are dressed terribly and dance even worse. Lighten up and I guarantee you’ll have fun. It’s cheesy, and you’ll love every second of it!

Ok, like Marie V, maybe it’s just because I was visiting that I loved it so much, but I had a great time! It was kind of pricey(relative to the surrounding bars we walked to) to get in, if I recall, but out of all the clubs/pubs we went to while visiting our friends in Brighton, Oceana was the most fun. I think it’s a good place to go with a large group of people, and I liked how there were different«themed» rooms. A weird disco-like room was the first one we walked through, which was predictably dead, the largest room with all the dancing and tvs was fun and the lodge-like room was nice to sit and chat with people if you wanted to get away from the dancing and loud music. Everyone was really friendly and I would want to go there again if I visited Brighton!

Okay, coming from someone visiting from California as a student, I had the time of my life at Oceana over a summer. Locals were so much fun & very nice there. All my friends had a great time there too. I guess I just loved everything about Brighton!

This place is just souless. Its a massive club at the bottom of West Street, it has two dance floors — one with a flashing dance floor playing cheesy pop, the other playing some weird mix of R&B/hip hop. It also has two bars — they would probably be ok apart from the fact that all drinks are served in plastic glasses! I was here at 8pm for an event and was given a glass of wine in a plastic cup — just what sort of people are you expecting here!!! Not only that, it was a filthy plastic cup!!! The barman did actually apologise and change it for me(and he didn’t just pour the wine for the dirty cup into the clean cup as I have seen some people try to do!!) We only went into the club as we had free entry following the event, and to be honest I really wish I hadn’t bothered. The place is a real meat market and is just gross. The music is bad, the drinks are expensive and the vibe is hostile — just not my cup of tea* They also have a hotdog stand in the foyer — why? *Perhaps I’m just at that age where I should stay at home with my cup of tea instead of putting myself through the trauma of Brighton’s dodgy nightclubs!

pphh i put 1 star as i didnt find an option for negative stars: S souless is the word, staff unhelpful and unfriendly and music is the worst as its the same 3 tracks on repeat all night… ok exageration but u gettin my drift… dont go there and hopefully they will sell out to somebody who actually knows how to put on a good night and music… really give this a miss and head for the seafront if you fancy a chance of havin a good night ;)

This place is about as souless as you can get. Head to faux ice palace main room to dance to chart toppers mixed expertly by the local radio voiced dj, or why not try the fake 70’s disco, where anythiong pre 2000 is played on the heavily repeated playlist. There are lots of bouncers on hand to stop anyone having fun or drinking their over priced beer any where near the dance floor.

Oceana Brighton has its own unique style and is one of the more classy clubs in the UK chain. The atmosphere depends on the night you go; Thursday nights are the token student night with cheap drinks and cheesy music. All pints and bottles are £1.50! Friday and Saturday nights the atmosphere is not as friendly and you get the feeling that the chain cares more about mass profit rather than entertainment. A place for the masses, perfect for a huge group that wants to boss the dance floor. If you value insightful conversation and fine wines the atmosphere is not for you!

I’m sorry, but any club that needs to resort to selling all drinks in plastic glasses AND bottles sets alarm bells ringing in my ears as a place I do not want to be going. As a venue there is not too much wrong with the place. It’s a big club with an upstairs balcony level and then a main dance floor and surrounding lounge areas with big bars. They even have a white grand piano upstairs, but I’m not sure how much play time it ever gets. There is also a stage area for live events and I ended up at a roller disco here a few weeks back that included a live band on stage. The place also has all the latest visual technology and projection equipment. Now for the bad. The music is cheesy, the staff are quite rude and the door staff are proper thug types. I don’t really blame them however. The clientele tend to be non-brightonians who stream off the train from the surrounding towns every Friday and Saturday with a direct line to get drunk, try to pull and if that fails get into a fight. Is this my idea of a good night out, or a pleasurable experience??? Fuck no!!! This is pretty much the only 1 star review I have awarded in over 300 reviews and in this case it is well deserved. To sum up this place in one word I choose… FAIL!

So lets get past the snobbery and prejudice that makes us dislike Oceana. It is a bit tacky in parts, the music is far from cutting edge and some of the clientele might be a bit dubious, but this really isn’t a bad night out. More than anything, Oceana is reliable and does what it is suppose to. For a relatively cheap entry, you can step inside and discover a recently decorated, highly polished venue. Drink offers can be found on most nights, as can a busy atmosphere and good sound system. I won’t pretend this place is amazing, because it isn’t. However, it beats pretentious nightclubs that play unknown music for a £10 entry fee.

Oh dear. I can imagine if I were completely up for it, this would be one glorious spectacle of a night. But rarely being up for ‘Oceana’, the evening was somewhat of a washout. It’s so busy… I mean cattle market busy. And this is a big club, so that’s a lot of cattle. I like the scene comparisons with ‘Booze Britain’ made by Joseph. J, I love that show but like to keep in the safe confines of my television set, rather than have them spill out of the screen and onto screaming and sicking at me.

Great Club… brilliant location. Drink prices could be better but overall not a bad experience.

Oceana — why did you have to come to Brighton?! The rowdy Wednesday student night can be fun, but its popularity is at the expense of the more grimy local venues. Who can compete with 7 million pounds worth of super club? If you come to Brighton, don’t let your time at this place be at the expense of smaller, quirkier, less lairy clubs! For cheese try Funky Fish, for good music try Casablanca of Volks, or for a studenty vibe try Coaltion.

I want to give this club a fair assesment that isn’t based on just one experience. Wednesday night is student night and if you are not drunk and a student that this will be a very bad experience for you however, it is safe to say that for hundreds of students this is one of the best nights out in the whole week anywhere in Brighton. The weekends is over 20s so the experience is completely different. On these nights you can have fun with people that are not out to get blind drunk but to have a few drinks and a boogie. This club is huge and furbished to the highest standard in thw whole of Brighton so how is this a bad thing? It allows people to get away from the hustle and bustle of the dance floor and a chance to get to know someone a little better in classy bars. The prices are way too prices on the weekend but it is the same in most places you go in Brighton on the weekend. Do not be put off by previous reviews as this club offers something for everyone if you choose the right day to go.

I headed over to Oceana last Wednesday under the illusion I was going to be having a wonderful night out full of drinking, partying and generally hedonistic shenanigans. Unfortunately the club was just far too busy — a sad consequence of it being the start of a new year, resulting in the arrival of a new batch of Freshers, sheepishly following the herd to the detriment of their own individual sense of identity -, and many of those inside were either too drunk, too aggressive, or too immature to act with any manner of decency, with some seemingly finding it impossibly to escape the ridiculously selfish, drunken misconception that they somehow owned the place. Much of the problem is perhaps a resultant consequence of this abode being the chosen venue of Sussex Universities various sports clubs; the male members of which generally have too much testosterone for their own good, whilst those of a female persuasion, though not as lamentable as their testicle-wielding counterparts, seem to suffer from the most awkward mental handicaps, which sadly leave them perpetually convinced their participating in some sort of giant game to see which one of their members can act the most like a prostitute in public. The cliental aside, the flaws I encountered on my latest trip here were innumerable. Firstly the price of admission. Now I don’t have a problem with paying to enter a club. I do it on a regular basis and rarely grumble. Furthermore, the fee of £3 was hardly an amount to get upset about. However, stealth taxes, whether legislated by government, or implemented by a particularly grubby club owner, annoy the hell out of me. You see, after paying my entrance fee, I was clobbered with a further charge of £3.60 to store my jacket and hoody in the clubs cloakrooms, against my will, as, apparently neither item was permitted inside — you’d think they could have pointed that out to me before I paid to get in the place, right?-. £3.60 to use a cloakroom is excessive, especially when the money is non-refundable and the individual storing his or her items is effectively being forced into placing clothing there against their own wishes. Point two: the drinks selection. Of course, I already knew the choice regards alcoholic beverages was shoddy here, but, perhaps because I was more sober than usual, the limitations regards intoxication irked me more than usual. Firstly, they only had one beer on tap: Stella. Second, the shot prices were excessive. Third, the only item worth ordering, considering the cost of everything, and considering that the only alternative — VKs -, are almost impossible to get drunk with, is Vodka Lemonade. This seems to cost a reasonable £1.50, but in reality you are paying for a small plastic cup containing a tiny amount of vodka, and a splash of lemonade. Hardly value for money. Finally, the music. Terrible, terrible, terrible. Every song was either bad ten years ago, or merely a mainstream track, so overplayed it had lost any sense of the unique originality and charm it had once possessed. A bit like Oceana itself really.

My mate and I were really looking forward to a good night out and as we love the Birmingham Oceana we decided to check out this one. Only one room was open which was disappointing for a Saturday night, the drinks were expensive and there were very few people there over about 20yrs. Also, the staff weren’t great. One of us was served the wrong drink and when we politely asked for it to be changed the barmaid refused and was pretty rude. We were annoyed but let it go, and the next thing we knew security were on us threatening to chuck us out for using abusive and threatening language towards the staff! We stayed for the evening but won’t be going back. Either this club gets a lot of trouble or none at all which may explain the overeaction!

This club has loads of different rooms each with its own atmosphere from A Parisian Boudoir to a ski lodge. There are two main dancefloors one large rooms with huge dancefloor playing commericial dance and RnB and the New York Disco room playing funky classics. This is my favourite room as it has a real party atmosphere with low ceiling and flashing dancefloor — great for large groups.

This place is massive and alot of bigger than the original club(Event 2) that was here before. It boasts various lounges with different themes such as ski lodge and the ice bar. Very modern and unique interior and recommended if looking for a good night out. The drinks however can be a bit too expensive though.

I love this place! Been to one before in Milton Keynes but now having one in my home town is amazing! The club is like a crazy fun maze, each room delivering a different feel, vibe and completely different look. Really stylish and attracts a good funky happy crowd! Excellent variation on the drinks and they are reasonabley priced — although getting one may take more than a few minutes! If you need a change and want to feel like you are not in England, grab a few friends and enjoying a funky night in Oceana!
